Community Tasting Notes 4

August 30, 2020 - One bottle was a nice flowery vinegar which when we ate some very acidic lemon vinaigarette salad with it it actually sang with a nice sweet flowery melody. With anything else or by itself, it was a sad song. Just shared this with everyone to encourage experimentation tasting of what you think is a bad wine.....especially when it is an aged wine that you may have spent lots of bucks on. This bottle is not included in the score for this wine.

Bottle two cork broke and required filtration (fine Stainless steel).
Wine was dark golden tan and smelled like a field of flowers with dusty winds. Taste was a sweet floral flavor with rose and other flowers with dust and dry tannin. There was some oxidized flavor but it was very light madeirized flavor. Had this with a steak dinner and it went well with a rare steak; it did not go well with the salad.
There is still plenty of acid and it is good balance with the flavors. Finish was light flowers and dry tannin.
It still has a few more years of life to go.

March 8, 2017 - This was really singing last night! Bottle looked to be in especially nice shape - fill was base neck, cork came out in one solid piece and was not even soaked all the way through. The wine was red fruited, had good weight but still came across as elegant. Comparisons were made to 1985 Grand Cru Burgundy...pretty impressive stuff. The cork was pulled about 1.5 hours before pouring, and then the wine was decanted off its sediment just prior to pouring. It did change in the glass over the course of an hour or so, but it never fell apart. Strong wine!

    November 7, 2012 - No notes taken.

Cork at its' last 1/8" of dryness.

    Plenty of sediment.

    Really fun wine.

Cool presentation in a burlap bag with wax seal that also has an italian coin in it (historical to send on it's journey?).

Tar, violets, cherry, black cherry, lt. vanilla, some truffles showing from time to time.

Occasional leather and dark chocolate bits.

    Lighter 1.5% milk body.

Ok finish of around 50 seconds.

The most experienced Barolo I have had so far.

It shows you what good provenance does.

Enjoy now, but could go a couple more years for fun to compare.

    88/87 pts.

June 27, 2011 - Was still alive and drinkable, not bad, not great certainly, but for what I paid for it an absolute steal. Leather, mushrooms, no fruit, but still enjoyable.
