March 6, 2020 - Zachy's La Paulee 2020; 3/5/2020-3/6/2020 (Le Bernardin Prive): Great backward heat, very nice balance, so smooth tannin. 95

February 15, 2020 - Dark, dense, concentrated...a bit on the ripe side, but enjoyable. I'd like a bit more structure to the wine.

November 9, 2019 - Enjoyed with my wife Xiaopei and great friends at Benu in San Francisco. While this certainly was not a great year in Burgundy, with, in some areas, frost, followed by seriously excessive heat, this personal favorite, and fabled, vineyard, in the hands of the master yielded a very enjoyable bottle. Not as initially floral and red as I find other vintages, the nose brought to mind mixed red and blue fruit preserve; with slightly savory, brambly, and earthy underbrush; along with a faint whiff of smoke and a touch of mocha. Over time, the trademark roses and violets appeared, but quietly. In the mouth, this was richer, darker, more concentrated and almost muscular; less elegant and also somewhat less complex than the magic that this wine achieves when from a less challenging vintage. Overall, it still was excellent and it was a joy to share this wine, a masterful achievement from a difficult vintage.

Yoon Ha, Benu’s fantastic Master Sommelier, with whom I love the occasional opportunity to share and from whom I always learn, discussed it as “Compact, ... with more chords than individual notes, perhaps with less space and time than usual between the notes, but without question the best wine that could be made that year.”

March 9, 2019 - La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Late night, small glass, brief note. Dense and meaty with very good concentration, but the ripeness of the vintage is slightly too pronounced. Fun and very enjoyable, but not perfectly balanced like the great vintages of this wine.

April 29, 2018 - Chambolle Musigny Tasting (Restaurant De Ertepeller, Papendrecht. NL): Dense, dark extra ripe raspberry fruit on the nose and palate, supple, framed by ripe tannins. Quite savoury.
