Monday, September 5, 2016 - Terroir-istes International - Australia-Penfolds Mini Verticals (Klein Constantia): (Tasted Blind): Deep black-purple wine with complex and layered aromas displaying creamy melted chocolate (reminiscent of Galaxy), ripe blackberry, mulberry, damson, and black plum.
Robust and full-bodied on the palate, the texture is creamy and silky. There are some well-extracted notes, but not overworked; a lively, fresh acidity and chamois-like yet dense tannins give layers to its appeal. Lots of complexity, generous fruit and integrated alcohol. It is long, precise, yet powerful with a fantastic depth of fruit with an iron backbone (almost an iron fist in a velvet glove). Closes with black cherry, blackcurrant compote and chocolate. Fantastic!
90 Shiraz & 10 CS
