Monday, January 12, 2015 - Decanted twice, allowed to stand in decanter in wine cellar 9 hours.
Aromatically- promised raw dark meat, deep black fruits, pencil lead, clay soil. Initial tastes- Green bananna, firm tannins, unripe black cherry. Fruit was underwhelming, presently, and acid seemed overbalanced by tannic structure, though there is evident acidity. That may correlate to the late season rain in 2006. Oak seemed well integrated, but the flavors have a short finish. We moved on to food, and the wine played much better against a grilled NY strip. Carmelized steak fat really tamed present tannins and highlighted blue and black fruits. I plan to revisit 5+ years forward.
