2008 Château Le Gay Pomerol

92 Points

Friday, July 24, 2020 - Finally opening up a bottle. Ullage is good and cork is tight. Just a bit of sediment. Color is robust and darker than anticipated. Nose is all that you want from a Pomerol – fleshy, dark plums, chocolate, rose, and something floral. As for the palate, you would think it’s not a 2008 given all the broad, dark flavors of plum, blackberry, sour cherry, cassis, and earth. Toward the finish, tannins peaks through, ending with something watermelon-like and an ever so slight touch of bitterness. Overall, an enjoyable wine. I liked this wine and score it a 92, but can’t score it higher due to the finish.

(Served with grilled pork chops, baked potato, and blistered peppers.)
