Thursday, January 20, 2022 - Bottle 1362/1982. A subtle whiff of reduction greets, it’s an immensely dense wine at first compared to the open knit and fruit driven Reignots but it is so with a tightly knitted mineral web that lends it some immense freshness, a hint of freshly ground coffee bean and cut at the same time. Soaring cinnamon with more coaxing, majestic and ethereal. It’s an immense achievement of a wine and this being my third encounter showed much like the first time (rated 98) while a second bottle which was also absolutely delightful was more dark, salty and caramel (rated 96). Louis Michel made some astounding 08s and this bottle just goes further to cement this. They are also in a nice spot although I always feel Eche needs more time than Reignots for example but they always drink well “young” too chez CLB. Drink now - 2040. 97+
