Monday, April 8, 2024 - 23 years of aging has brought out tertiary notes of butterscotch and raisin. However it has lost a lot of acidity and complexity and was in my view overly sweet at this point. Was disappointed.

4/8/2024 8:10:00 AM - Sorry for being a Wise Guy, but acidity does not get "lost". It might be that you had an off bottle. 23 years of age is nothing for this wine.

4/8/2024 8:54:00 AM - While I have enjoyed this vintage of Rieussec, I admit to finding it (on a number of different tasting occasions throughout its life) a little lacking in the acidity department in general, but I get that it is a matter of personal preference. In the right context, with the right food(s), it can still be an excellent wine.

4/8/2024 9:14:00 AM - Ok, so according to the Chateau, the 2001 contains 4,9gr/l acidity. Based on Riesling Standards it is low, based on Sauternes it is somewhat medium+.
So, yes if you compare it with a Riesling BA that has 10+ gr/l it taste very sweet.

4/8/2024 9:23:00 AM - Those numbers make sense, and my palate has moved towards more "refreshing" acidity in dessert wines over the years, but I can definitely still appreciate an occasional Sauternes/Barsac nonetheless. Cheers.
