Saturday, April 18, 2020 - Super dark to within a fraction of an inch of the rim where it turns a deep red plum grading to an orange tinged rim. So thick and rich it robes the glass in a solid sheet before slowly forming slow legs. Spicy cedar and dark berry fruit initially on the nose but it is subdued upon PnP. Later on there is lots of deep red and black berry fruit on the nose, tar, mulch, licorice, pipe tobacco and mystery. Uber full bodied, tons of extract, tons of tannin but they are ripe, fine and subsumed under the fruit. The flavours are very dark, spiced, dried and sweet berries, sanded cedar, licorice root, full mouthfeel and a tannic finish with that telling bitterness at the end. This has come into much better balance over the past few years. Actually feels fresher and lighter on its feet than it has any right to.
