Saturday, October 7, 2017 - 2017 Heritage Blind Wine Challenge (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. This showed an incredibly dense black fruited-character, as well as a bit of bell pepper that was unmistakably a cabernet blend. The fruit here was luscious, rich, and concentrated, and I gravitated towards the Napa Valley for this one on that profile. Of course, this wasn't an over-the-top joke wine -- serious, classic Napa cabernet. Running through some riper vintages, I eventually settled on 1994 -- this bottle didn't taste quite as fresh. As far as producers, I pulled one out of a hat and guessed Heitz Martha's.
