Saturday, April 26, 2014 - A stunningly good wine and for sure a just as lovely Champagne, the 2005 Comtes des Champagne is the prince which lingers on a bit behind regents like the 2000 and 2002 vintages. Still it is a remarkable wine, balancing power and elegance in a mind boggling way. The palate reveals classy mature green apple, lemon curd, light toast and as a dot over the "i", a lovely tone of sweet brioche. The palate follows through in a pleasant way with striking balance and a close to perfect structure. The acidity is shining through a bit too much in the end palate and slightly reduces my overall very positive impression. The wine gives a very "drinkable" impression and I do not see any reason not to enjoy this lovely effort as soon and as often you are given the chance!
