Youthful and refreshing at almost 20 years old! Brioche yellow apple and pear along with lemon meringue and burnt sugar. Delicious from start to finish. Left the bottle on the counter and as it warmed up it got even better. Drink over the next 10-15 years

Still one of the greats. So pure, and now developing more of the baked bread aroma, yet still laser like with its lemon zest and granny smith. Unreal. Highest recommendation

What a charmer in the beginning of its drinking window. Good and persistent mousse. Lovely fruit and medium acidity. Good now and should continue to improve.

September BYO (Ole Johan): The wine opens up with an earthy nose. This quickly blows away and we are left with a nose that develops with air and becomes increasingly complex. Meaty, malty, spice, citrus, and deep sea. The wine leaves a mature impression. The palate is characterized by limestone, cured meat, and citrus such as clementines and eventually lemon. Great acidity and length.

"I got three Willis" (Chicago, IL): From magnum. Of course, it's better than in fifth. Shows a little bit of smokiness from aged chardonnay, and more depth and richness on the palate than I remember from half a year ago. Really good minerality and breadth here.

blind I guessed big house and from 2008. Waffles, nuts, creamy, nicely balanced with the sugar. Some cotton candy, at his peak. Surprised from the vintage. 95

Sangiovese study, Volume II (Chicago, IL): A good, not great edition of CdC. For my taste, this came across as too angular, and there was a smoky quality on the nose that seemed distracting. On the palate, this was also somewhat diffuse.

Floral red Burgs / '08 or older champagnes: Guessed this was from a warmer vintage like 2006. Rich and round for a CdC with tropical rather than citrus fruit dominating. Very pleasurable as usual but just missing a little cut.

In a beautiful place right now. Good and persistent mousse for a long evening. Pineapple dominating with lime, brioche, saffron and a stony minerality. All backed by a good acidity. Really well made Champagne coming into its drinking window.

Bright, very complex nose with deep toast notes and great depth on the palate. My first experience with the '05 and it did not disappoint. I was fortunate to get to try this side by side with very small pours of the '04 and '06. I thought the acidity on the '05 set it apart, but there were factors that may have influenced that impression, including pour size and temperature.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Small taste. Maybe a slightly leaner feel compared to the '06, more similar to the '04 tonight, but maybe a bit more depth here, really good, but hey, do they ever miss? Ready to go.

Very attractive biscuit and brioche nose of considerable depth. The palate is creamy, long and precise with an energetic and fine mousse, dancing lightly across the palate, an exquisitely delicate lime and lemon acidity, considerable minerality on the midpalate, and persistence. Stunning Champagne, in its prime.

compact and balanced nose, intensive, youthful aromas of stone fruits such as apricots and mango followed by some sweet nutty aromas and a touch of nougat and brioche. fresh and enjoyable.
on the palate as well very structured and balanced. medium fine perlage, creamy, very long finish, high acidity. this wine is rather elegant and fresh.
can drink now but also enjoy over the next 5-10y

A fresh brioche, lemon, and salty nose. Love the purity of the fruit. The palate has nice minerality and chalkiness to it. The finish is a little short and lean though. I'd pay up a little more for better years.

Overall thoughts: While the pinpoint bubbles and fuller body created a great mouthfeel and the autolytic notes were nice, I felt this bottle was in a weird place. It seemed as though the fruit had faded but no tertiary notes had developed yet. The acidity was also lacking and the wine generally lacked vibrance. While a bit disappointing for me, this is still a great wine.

Summer Mondo Event $200+ (Roswell, GA): Green apples and cream, luxurious, doughy, graphite, pretty open for a recently opened CdC, accessible, more yellow fruit on the palate, Chard notes more apparent, rich; in a very good spot now.

Still fresh as a daisy, although color is very slightly darker now; similar notes to before, but with just a little more softness, richness? Classic sourdough, lemon curd, yellow peach, fresh cut wood, good intensity, fine bubbles, excellent depth and finish. W/Tavola CA cheese/pasta carbonara S&L

Drank at Inn at Pound Ridge with our realty broker. Aromas of fruit, caramel and toast. Plenty of fruit on the palate, good acidity level, nice touch of minerality and great precision. Mousse, toast, and caramel on the palate. Medium body, nice and round, and a wonderfully long finish. What a great bottle of wine—as always!

Full and very rich nose. Extremely powerful. Toast, smoke, yellow apple and citrus all in perfect, perfect, harmonious balance. Fullish, and very balanced palate. Rich and powerful. Long and toasty. Both austere and generous. Very classic. After a while the toast even gives up some coffee notes. Very long and seamless. But not as intense as the absolute top vintages.

Same as all the other bottles though must admit I didn’t really notice that stem bitterness I associate with some 05s and this bottling in particular. Goodbye and thanks, as all regular bottles are gone, A magnum remains.

Mostly Champagne & Burgs (VVF, Krug, DP, Rousseau, Fourrier,…): Tasted double blind. My first time drinking the 2005. True to the house style, this is fresh, toasty with bright fruit and already in the zone with nice tertiary caramel aromas adding to the complexity. This is drinking beautifully today while you still have to wait for the 02/06/08 to reach their maturity plateau. It doesn’t have the depth of those vintages for sure but is still a great Champagne. Easily 94/95 pts.
TN: Medium expressive nose with toasty aromas, fresh fruit and some minerality. On the palate this shows beautifully with caramel, toast, fresh orchard fruit, minerality. Medium complex only but with fairly good precision. Overall, this is sexy and seductive with a nice medium acidity lending the wine enough freshness. Fine mousse, round and well balanced. Wonderful length and mid palate weight.
Decanting: Not decanted, no extensive decanting necessary.

Tasted blind as part of a Champagne and Burgundy tasting (plus pirates). A fine layer of toast only, pear and green apple, more steely type of minerality. Intensity is modest but ok. Otherwise a nicely expanding palate, dominated by citric aromas. As the finish unfolds more acidity hits. Nice detail overall and a very fine, elegant appearance.

During a private Champagne & Burgundy tasting. Another very pretty bottle of this. With notes of citrus, mirabelles, vanilla, some sweet spices, chalky notes adding mineral depth. It's medium-full bodied, has medium+ acidity and beautiful overall balance and roundness. Good length too. This is in the zone and will provide peak-drinking for another 5 years or so. (94+)

It never disappoints. Very interesting layers of aromas and flavors (white flowers, seashells, minerality, sweet citrus). Fresh acidity and good weight (despite the vintage). Not as rich as in other years, but surely pleasant and persistent. Drink or hold.

I don't remember this having much fruit weight the last time that I had the pleasure. But this time, I see that it has put on some weight and is in the sweet spot! It still has that signature Comtes toastiness and nut and remains very fresh. Lacks the richness of 2006, but this is in the zone! Must have gained weight during covid, spinning round and round in green. Drink!

Hadn’t had this in a while. Really reduced and didn’t blow off in the bottle, needed a lot more air. Quite flinty and otherwise still pretty fresh with good verve. Fair amount of Granny Smith apple. More bready by far than a Cedric Bouchard 17 Val Vilaine alongside but not too much dough or dosage. I love a good Comtes de Champage and this bottle in particular has well over 10 years to peak

Last time I had this bottle was six years ago. What a difference that makes. Then it was a lovely Champagne but not much more I noted in my books but now we have a really great bottle. Wonderful aromas of lemon oil, citrus, white flowers, very in character of this Cru. Fresh, precise long, yet with very nice fruit core. I think the reason this Cru is so popular is that it is made in a crowd pleasing style (generous 9g dosage) yet somehow it also manages to win the connoisseurs as well as it does not come across as overdosed.

It first seems delicate, with a mild breadiness on the nose with the breadiness repeating when it first hits the mouth, and then resolving to lemon with a mid-length finish. It's both creamy and energetic, and still seems youngish to me. And although the acid may be moderate, the wine is very nicely in balance.

Another pretty showing of this wine and seems the CdC has been following us over the last few months and we are very happy for it. Much like a few months ago ( Papies 93) with was a very elegant and silky wine, soft rich feel, soft bright and energetic on the palate and with a lot of class. Lush and really beautiful now albeit we dnt wee why this would not age a few more years :) 93

Nose: Medium (+) intense, very precise and fresh. Citrus, green apple, some stone fruits like apricot, peach and quite well integrated vanilla, brioche and yeast aromas (very well balanced!). Filigree and feminine - not at all powerful. Very fine notes of ripe mushrooms and nuts.
Mouth: fine perlage with medium alcohol, medium (+) acidity that is very animating and livening up the citrus core. Medium in body and medium (+) in intensity. Very balanced and a little riper in the mouth with more brioche and vanilla than in the mouth. Long lasting on the finish. Great stuff and appreciated that there is no over-ripeness. Still has potential for 5-10 years without losing much of its freshness.

From a beautiful magnum and really looks wise the magnum bottlings of CdC are really spectacular and there are few better ways to kick off a celebration than this especially adjusted for price. The 2005 benefits from higher level of ripeness and shows a bit richer and in the past we held it against it. In this case, maybe because of the magnum has a tweaked dosage or just 2yrs along the wine has evolved. it was on the money , lush energetic and full of elegance. An easy 93

Really nice champagne with a balance of bright yellow fruit and the more oxidized style of champagne, a nice middle ground if you will. It is complex with along finish and has hints of yeast and bread on the palate. This is in a really nice drinking window now for my preference, not too old but the acidity has been tempered with age.

Zoom tasting with the wine group - Champagne and Red Burgundy (Zoom): Tasted blind. Lemon-yellow; aromatic, minerals, slight matchstick, Grand Cru Chablis nose with depth and complexity; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, seems quite youthful and still needs a bit of time to meld and develop; finish is medium-plus. Balanced and enjoyable but youthful, though everything about this screams high quality. 92-93+ On reveal, a bit less brioche than I usually get from Comtes, but overall a very nice showing. I have some bottles and will wait a few years on mine.

Toasty and yeasty, but that baked apple fruit has a lovely citrus chorus that screams Chardonnay. It's all very forthcoming and generous. Perhaps slightly less precision and definition compared to my previous bottles, but what it lacks in perfection it makes up in sheer moreish enjoyment. These seem to be holding well, but certainly not one for the very long term.

Thanksgiving 2020- surprisingly soft and gentle. For me, blanc de blancs Champagne can sometimes be a bit aggressive in its acidity and brightness, but this does a marvelous job balancing focus and precision with a drinkable relaxed style. In fact, this being my first Comtes de Champagne, I was initially a bit disappointed due to its softness; it did not grab my attention the way I expected a big name tête de cuvée might. The intensity of aroma and concentration I would rate as moderate. Was this really the hallowed Comtes de Champagne?
However, as the wine took on air and I gave it more thought, I came to appreciate how this wine was able to lay out the typical Chardonnay flavors of lemon, grapefruit, and green apple, as well as the wonderful chalky, yeasty, and nutty flavors of top Champagne all on a velvet platter, rather than as a kick in the teeth (as many top level, and especially zero dosage, BdB often do). True to form, the mousse is fine, low on intensity, fizzy in character. This is a bottle of beautiful, subtle, and wonderfully crafted Champagne that is quietly impressive. It is not loud, it is not in your face, and it is all the better for it.
Very clean with green orchard fruit and citrus undertones; good verve yet “relaxed” and the purity on nose, palate and finish is amazing. Remarkable freshness and impact.

Tasted blind; immediately shows some of the class and ripeness of the 2006 vintage. Lots of very pure, mineral laden scents of yellow orchard fruits, lemon, biscuity aromas that give way to more defined floral notes that only add elegance. Great long, fresh finish with lifted acidity and chalky minerals. Unfolds to more brown spices with air time; incredibly layered. 94+ today.
Drinking extremely well right now. Very light straw yellow in colour. Medium and persistent mousse. Strong classic nose of CdC. Lemon, pineapple, brioche, sourdough, hazelnut and wet stones. Medium acidity. Very balanced at this point and a good aftertaste. Maybe not in for the long run so why not just enjoy now.

Recently had the 2004 which was magnificent so wanted to try an 05 as I have a few. This takes a similar profile on the nose and to an extent on the palate. The real difference is the finish which has a bitterness and green apple / stem sort of element which is rather distinct. It’s still very good though and don’t really want to sound like I’m downgrading it due to the finish. Not as good as the 2004 of course but pretty good and well enough priced in context to other vintages at today’s market.

Drank alongside the 2006. This is slightly darker in the glass. This is a bigger wine and feels more mature. Drinking very well - tropical fruits, lemons, bread, buttery notes and sherbet. Great tension and weight on the palate. Edges the 2006 at this stage.

Back in January 2014 I said that this needed 5 more years. I put the rest of the case at the back of the cellar and forgot about them. Until last night. This champagne is drinking beautifully, but with life still ahead of it for sure. Rich, round, light citrus and biscuit, great length.

Kind of like drinking a riper vintage Chablis (which isn’t too far off!). This has finer slightly less effervescent bubbles than typical and you get the sense of the oak and richness of a warmer vintage, but it never feels overdone. This isn’t a spectacular Comtes, but it’s drinking very well now. A really good bottle of Chardonnay.

The apertif for a long, boozy lunch - this was a lovely mix of pear, some lime and yeast. Really enjoyed the minerality and the mouthfeel, buffered by medium acidity (for champagne). Young and will most definitely improve with age, but what a gorgeous drink already. Kudos to Taittinger - never a bad vintage of Comtes. Opened one hour prior to lunch and drank over 2.5 hours.

1990 Bordeaux Dinner (The Bristol - Chicago IL): In 05/06/07 vertical. Very rich and concentrated with plenty of orchard fruit and at least as much toasted rye bread with a traditional yeasty character. Good+ weight and depth. Chef's Counter at Willard's (Willards, Cambridge, MN): Light medium golden color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. This was just as delightful as ever. Comte is always a a delight every vintage, some hit an even higher level, but they never, ever disappoint. This was right there with the '04 and '07, while the '06 seems to have that little extra gear. But we're splitting hairs here. Can't wait to see what the '08 will hold. This was brilliant on the nose, classice Comte, a fine, persistent bead; very toasty, pewar, nutty, a little honey. The palate is beautiful, elegant, creamy, with a gorgeous minerality and excellent length.

Eight old bubbles vs the great French Meal (Where friends meet for a great casual French meal): In a line of very strong bubbles, and as part of the '04-'05-'06 comtes vertical, this one was voted as the best by 2 of eight guests (plus two random restaurant guests who were also called in to vote, so 2 out of 10). It is somewhat sweeter than both the '04 and the '06. Long bubbles, and medium plus finish. But, IMHO the sweetness slightly over dominates the tasting. I would have gladly 'parked' on a glass have I not had the '04 and '06 near it. But, I would say it fits better with sweeter fish or the scallops. Well, it is a nice problem to have...

Still shows a lovely richness with ripe orchard fruits and plenty of brioche. Hazelnuts creeping in, but not lacking a fresh zing either. Long persistent finish. This lacks the mineral complexity of better vintages, but somehow seems a bit sturdier with food. Delicious with smoked salmon and roasted turbot.

Ritz for dinner. Limited notes. A glass as an apéritif but from a fresh bottle. Refined elegance and packed with CdC's trade mark mineral elements. Apple and pears, citrus zest and bready with decent acidity. Persistant mousse. Excellent. Drink over the next 2-3 years while grip at its prime (unless you like your champers old - it would probable hold up to 20 years from vintage).

My first experience with Comte. Rich in color. Nose gives off a bread, dough and yeast element, followed by some green apple notes. The Papies 25th Anniversary - The Fat Duck (The Fat Duck, Bray): By the glass at The Fat Duck, Bray. Opened on the day and used as a by the glass wine which may have tired it a bit. A wine we usually rate 93+ , this 2005 maybe suffers a bit of over ripeness. Still very charming and elegant don't get us wrong, but lacked the spirited side, the energy we usually associate with it. Richer on the fruit, less mineral and a different dimension vs other more lean vintages which frankly we prefer. 91-92 on this 2005

One Years Work, One Nights Tasting (Morrell Wine): The nose was rich and slightly darker than the 2007 beside it, but also warmer and inviting, with hints of apricot, young peach, dried florals and minerals. On the palate, I found a soft expression, easy to understand, yet greatly satisfying, with yellow stone fruits giving way to smoky, savory minerals and hints of spice. It finished medium-long, resonating on minerality, yet with the acidic twang I’ve come to expect from Comtes. That said, the 2005 was highly enjoyable and firmly in its drinking window.

IPNC Van Duzer Group Rapid Reunion (Chez Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN): So drinking Comte on back to back nights is certainly not a bad thing. Another not so revolutionary observation would be that Taittinger makes some awfully good stuff every single vintage they declare. I was thinking to myself the other day when an offer for '07 came through, that I could still pick up the '06 for even less money, but you know, I want to experience every vintage. The '05 was a carbon copy of the Tait framework that is so wonderful every vintage. Toasty, medium plus body, graceful and resonant. A worthy followup to the outstanding '99 from last night. Comte is THE best value in tete de cuvee Champagne.

strong bubbles even after open for a couple of hours. Dark slightly amber golden color. Nose initially slightly nutty, with time pronounced yeasty notes, some golden fruits, waxy hint. Palate rich, full bodied, great acidity, slightly nutty, rippling layers of figgy fruit flavors. Wonderful, already has great complexity but think this has the acidity/fruity depth to evolve even more yet. 96 pts

At dinner. Brief note. Pours a star-bright golden straw yellow in the glass. Fine and persistent perlage and a fine, creamy mousse. Nose and palate show intense notes of crunchy and tart green apple, Meyer lemon curd, brioche/autolytic notes, toasted hazelnuts, and crushed powdery limestone. With time vanilla pastry creme and salted almonds as well as more lees-y notes emerge. Laser focused and racy acidity define the well filigreed midpalate while the ripe citrus curd and vanilla creme are lifted by the perlage and create a lovely texture and complex midpalate to play off the salty nutty notes. Finish is long, complex, and satisfying. A completely different wine from the 06' a few weeks back. They are both brilliant in their own way. Should continue to evolve and was nice to follow the nose and palate as the wine warmed over the course of the night.
Previous notes apply. One note, drank at lower temperature and all those great brioche, lemon curd, and citrus flavors blend beautifully. Amazing mouth feel. Good acidity with an extremely long finish. OUTSTANDING. Glad to have three more because this wine is in it's stride with a long life ahead.

2005 TAITTINGER COMTES de CHAMPAGNE BLANC de BLANC BRUT- this bottle showed as well as any I`ve had and all have been over the top; it had elegance and charm along with beautiful balance; the texture was just creamy enough and the taste had more spicy, ginger infused rich citrus, apple, pear and a hint of almond butter; this is so different from earlier CdCs in that it`s less full bodied and does not have that pronounced toasty brioche that I associate with older vintages; nonetheless, I love this style and this 05` is fabulous.

Drank a few nites ago for my birthday celebration-a gift from FAD. My notes are consistent with previous tastings. Floral notes on the nose, with copious amounts of bread and toast. Still on the young side. Citrus elements up front with crisp acidity. Slightly dry, tart finish. Good complexity and length. More depth and length than I recall. It's improving with bottle age, though missing the creaminess and stuffings of the better vintages. Give it some more time...

Explosive notes of matchstick, also some vegetal note adding freshness, vanilla, yellow fruits and matchsticks, lemon peel. Medium+ bodied with excellent mid-palate density and great sweetness/acidity interplay. Creamy bubbles with some nice medium-high acidity. Very good length. Excellent showing. Showing similarly great on day 2 and 3, on day 3 even more aromatic, with some tonic notes, also still plenty of matchstick mineraliy, candied lemon. Also some sweetntess, but everything is beautifully balanced.

2005 TAITTINGER COMTES de CHAMPAGNE BLANC de BLANC BRUT- the 4th of a 6 pack and perhaps as good as any I`ve had; this medium plus bodied bubbly has so much going for it; there`s the rich flavours of citrus, apple and pear with perfect accents of toast, spice, ginger and a hint of vanilla that`s delivered in a light creamy mousse; it has lots of elegance and yet posses an element of power.

Thought I would write my review of this champagne whilst finishing off the bottle for once rather than afterwards! Overall, this an excellent bottle of Comtes de champagne. I believe the 2005 is at a very interesting stage in its evolution. I experienced a very lively and aromatic mousse (something which I enjoy and look for). The initial mouth feel was great with smooth, dry, creamy flavours. Mid palate showed hints of development and citrus. I also experienced woody notes and flavours although not every mouth full. The finish was more developed and long lasting which was glorious and much improved than I experienced 18 months ago. I sense this is only a baby and therefore there is definitely a lot more excitement to come. However, I obviously opened this too early, but not being one to regret we thoroughly enjoyed the bottle. Definitely one to leave in the cellar / Eurocave if you can and not allow temptation to get the better of you!!

Very nice, and good order after the Salon as it seemed to carry just a slight whiff of vanilla oak with it (5% new); this was always the wine I likened to "drinking clouds" for its elegance, but I have to say the '04 Salon now took that description to a new level. However, this is still lovely, elegant, slight caramel note, more fruit/less mineral than the Salon, or than the '04 Comtes, approachable, hedonistic wine right now. Not as pure or as elegant as the Salon. At Okumura sushi.

Drinking better than the 06 at the moment, this is forward, rich, and mesmerising. Citrus and stone fruits with a lovely creamy nuttiness, with toasty notes coming through. Almost like fizzy Cotes du Beaune at times, it shows a fine mousse, is well balanced, and probably has another 10 years in it.

Floral, citrus and toast on the nose. Evolved into creamier honeyed and nutty aromas with time. Open, lush, rich and ripe consistent with the vintage. My preference is for higher acidity, minerality and more evolution over an evening. Nonetheless this was incredibly easy to consume with a richer meal or on its own.

Brought this to a very high end wine dinner at Racine's in NYC, I had nothing to bring to keep up with the other wines; so when in doubt, bring a Champagne. It was well received. Plenty of little bubbles to start. A little yeast and maybe a hint of hazelnut? Delicious. Glad I have some '06's as backup.

Pale yellow, fine mousse. Nose of citrus, brioche and dried flowers with a slight hint of honey and oxidative notes. Full body, much more than I expected for a BdB and a long mineral finish. This is wonderful and ready to go now, use a tulip or even bigger glass to get all the aromas!

Drank last nite at Harvest on Hudson for Alana's graduation. My notes are consistent with previous tastings. Floral notes on the nose but more bread and toast on the nose and palate than the last time I had this wine. Still fairly young. Citrus elements up front with crisp acidity. Slightly dry, tart finish. Good complexity and length. More depth and length than I recall. It's improving with bottle age, though missing the creaminess and stuffings of the better vintages. Give it some more time...

Still pound for bound the best dollar value of all the Tete de cuvées out there. Crisp, clean and always flirting with 100. Highest recommendation

Some great wines with Friends; 5/20/2017-5/21/2017 (The Barn at Walden): Delicious. In a great place right now. The cork popped loudly. Light golden in color. The nose has chalk and is very slightly nutty. Great acidity. This is all about minerality rather than fruit. Some ginger. Complex and layered. Long finish. Just beautiful right now but no hurry. Don't expect a big champagne but great intensity.

Consistent as ever. Drank right after a salon 2002 Abd the contrast was stark. This wine has lemon zest, green apple, perfect acidic zeal, mineral salinity and a refreshing light mouthfeel. Completely drinkable and completely delicious. It is evolving slowly. Very consistent to the last 10 times :-) I've had it. Highly recommended. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar THE best Champ brand of all.

DIY BYO Dinner - Notes from another taster (Amali, NYC): Following on the heels of the Billecart Salmon Rose and the Cedric Bouchard Les Ursules, this is definitely more in the yeasty, nutty brioche style. Lemon curd and yellow apple with rising bread dough - very nice. Perhaps not as rich as the 2004 vintage which I recently had, but still lovely.

Fresh and lively nose of lemon citrus with only a bit of brioche beginning to come out. Pleasurable but relatively simplistic on the palate with more lemon and green apple. Ripe and high sugar. A little thinner than you'd expect from CDC.

Crystal Wine Champagne Tasting: Closed. Faint, mainly creamy nose of fresh pear and green apple. Palate is dry and mineral driven. OK, but particularly interesting by this cuvee's standard.

Comtes vertical: Riper than '04 with honied notes, and caramel apple; still has the classic angel food-redux-yeast thing going on, but this is more approachable, broader, rounder, but still with excellent concentration. Finish is just short of the '04 though. Prefer the '04 first, then the '06, then '05. Although I wouldn't turn any of them down.

Rich but with excellent acidity. Full bodied, with yeasty notes, apples, toast, and noticeable dosage. The acidity carried it nicely, but I would like to try this again in a few years to let it integrate. Outstanding but a bit foursquare at this point. 92

Yeast on the nose. Broad baked apple flavor, lemon curd, a dash of flint. Very nicely put together and a real treat. Definitely has tete de cuvée level precision and balance.
Less mineral driven than Dom. Less acidic and tart than la Grande Dame. Up there with la grande annee with my fave top champagnes

Christmas Dinner Søllerød 2016 (Søllerød Kro): What a great wine. Often af favourite of mine among Les Grandes Marques, this does noit disappoint in 2005; full bodied, roch with rye bread, butter, hints of coffe, a creamy texture, certainly quite developed for it's age, but who cares, if you are gonna drink it now.

Heritage Blind Tasting (Chicago, IL): Served double-blind. Very fresh and bright initially, but the bubbles dissipated very, very quickly. I thought this had some brut-zero like acidity at first, although the wine started to flesh out as it got warmer. There's a light touch of nuttiness on this wine. I guessed 2010 Ulysse Collin Pierrières, though I thought this didn't quite have as much body as what I'd expect from it.

Heritage 2016 Blind Wine Tasting Challenge - Chicago "Regional" (The Boarding House - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Thought it BdB Champagne, even with carbonation mostly gone. Lots of ripe apple and bready notes, I thought it older, thinking perhaps 1996, but in fact it was really showing the house style and vintage ripeness. A Champagne I liked but probably mostly enjoy on the youngish side.

Comtes vertical: Amazing ethereal like nose right off the bat with a meringue like delicate texture. Pretty, perfectly ripe white fruits, chalky notes, extremely fine bubbles, elegant and weightless on the palate, lovely light yeast notes, but still intense and long at the same time. Gorgeous.

Just a taste from a guest. Solid choice for sure, but surprised to see the price point, which I suppose you could say about most Champagne, but I've had better from 2005 for similar range.

This is a good to very good champagne but not a very good CdC. For the vintage it is very good but in my opinion this is not a vintage that should have been declared for the prestige cuvees. The Chardonnay based wines are not quite as good as in 06 and 04 IMO and nowhere as good as in 02. The 2005 CdC is quite forthcoming and hits you with a strong attack but then fades a little bit too quickly lacking the complexity and length of the best vintages of this Champagne. This is probably roughly on a par with DP 2005 but for my money I'd give the 2005 champagnes a miss and in the case of CdC I would look for 04 or 06 at similar price level or for the incredible 2002 (which does unfortunately/admittedly play in a different price category).

This was brilliant. Which puzzled me as I'd recently found the '00 and '06 too rich, sweet and ripe for my palate. This on the other hand comes across as quite dry, and the richness/ripeness is very in-check and there is just shit-tons of depth.
Not the most powerful vintage of this wine but quite elegant at a young age and drinking well. Subdued brioche in good balance with pear, apple, and oyster shell notes. 93-94+

Very aromatic with a great brioche/bread character. Palate was a little fatter and more plush than expected, but could have been the ~50-55 degree serving temperature. Still, seemed like it could use a bit more cut to the palate. Moderate length finish. A strong champagne, just wanting a bit more energy. Complexity is good.

Medium straw colored with a very fine bead; lots of pep and verve, clean nose in which apple and pear slowly emerge; almost a slightly creamy feel to it but still firm and crisp; reels with energy. As it slowly warmed, it became much akin to a fine white burg (as great BdBs can do). Really opens up after an hour in the glass. NEEDS TIME BADLY. 2nd day: Almost ashamed that two wine nuts left more than half a bottle of this but we'd gotten together to taste a couple of old reds (a '53 Vosne Romanee 1er and a '69 Musigny - both of which were spectacular, so you might understand we were kind of anxious to move on to those). The Comtes was much more open (though you'd never have guessed it was open for 24 hrs). Greatly calmed down, much of the zip is gone, softer but no hints of oxidation. Bottles of this have long lives ahead of them if you like Champs with some age to them.

I knew I'd like it, but didn't know I'd love it. Prior to this bottle I hadn't been impressed by other '05 Champagnes. The Comte BdB always delivers for me, and this was no exception. All about complexity and less so fruit. Smoke, minerals; very balanced, with some citrus and orchard fruit thrown in. Wow.

Qantas First - London to Sydney. Sprightly nose of lemon, Nashi pear, toast and cashew. Fine bead with lovely line and lightness to the overall effect. Quite delicious and lingering - perhaps just a tad diffuse in mid-palate but the fine acid and mineral finish tidied that up ! A fine aperitif and first course wine !

Bubblefest - Taittinger Horizontal: Another strong showing of the '05 and I'm excited to compare this with the '06 vintage. This bubbly always show multiple facets of traditional champagne like acid, bread, mineral, and fruit in idea proportions.

I feel like this vintage keeps tasting better the more it ages. I used to have a more tropical impression of the fruit but that does not seem to be the taste to me any longer. Instead, it showed again better citrus in this bottle, a grapefruit intensity, apple and a distinct wood note. Terrific depth and complexity.

Had it together with Comtes de Champagne 2005 and Louise 2004 at Restaurant Flo in Reims. For me the 3rd place best after Louise 2004 and Cristal 2007. But it shows again these bottles need time. For me all too young and too fresh.
Not my vintage. Some typical CdC signs as nuts, roasted aromas and clean fresh citric finish but no complexity as it known in aged CdC. Won't be the most legend one of this gem, but very good drinkable over the next 5 years, 92

Clear, lemon-gold in colour with fine bubbles. Clean nose, medium intensity, still very youthful with lemons/citrus fruits, nuts and a hint of yeast. High acidity, medium-plus body, fine mousse and lovely intense flavours. Well balanced with long length.
Just a wonderful example of champagne although score may reflect the occasion as it was drunk the evening I resigned from my job.

Nice start to the meal. Popped and poured and I actually used it a bit as a palette cleanser between some of our reds (also had a '78 Solaia, '86 Unico, and '09 Hundred Acre). I've said this before in tasting notes and I'll say again, for me there seems to be maybe 3 levels of bubbles. There's Salon/Krug wow and prosecco-like or cheaper champagne not wow and a lot of wine in the middle that I like, but can't quite differentiate. This fell into that third category. Good bright bubbles and easy drinking.

The 2005 Comtes de Champagne is a very fine rendition of this wine, opening up with a nice bouquet of butter croissant, lemon oil and wet stones. The leesy tones marry very nicely with the wine's bright fruit. On the palate, the wine is nicely concentrated with good (but not pronounced) acidity and properly briny minerality and a bit of autolytic textural breadth, with a persistent finish. Good stuff in a vintage which is by no means universally brilliant.

Begins with a touch of reduction, but then cleans up to show a touch of yeast and a bit of lemon crème. Clear palate with citrus and chalk notes. Nice nuances, somewhat demure or reticent, not as forward as the 2004 I enjoyed twice recently (Piedmont and PDH), very direct with no fat. In discussing this with R, I sense that she feels this is somewhat blowsy, in line with a warm vintage. To me, however, this is reticent, compact and in need of some time. Til å begynne med nøtter, smør, lynghonning og litt toast, som overtar mer og mer. Delikate bobler som gjør denne lett å nyte som vin - ikke så eksplosiv som annen champagne. Rund og nesten litt feit i munnen. Blir sittende lenge, uten bitterhet. Herlig champagne!

EWG 10 Years On Tasting at Conrad's: Bright, yellow cherry, lemon, white peach notes, slightly more ripe than the previous vintage with dare I say almost a candied lemon note. Clean, delineated, very good acid level, persistent, fine bubbles, and fresh. Drank out of red Burg glass which does not focus the nose enough, and the broad rim doesn't focus the entry enough either. Prefer white Burg glasses. This needs time. EWG 10 years on tasting.

(BYO Blind tasting) Still youthful and very fruity nose. Apples, hints of yeast and a discreet spicyness. Appeared closed. Fruity, medium-fullish and balanced palate. There are notes of toasy bread, and a roasted impression. Very good grip. Harmonius yellow orchard fruit. Good intensity and a nice finish with smokey hints. Good minerality. We were surprised to discover that this was Comtes. We associate it with power, fullness, and an immense toastiness. On the other hand, I remember tasteing the -04, and it appeared just as youthful and shy as this. In need of cellaring. At least 5, probably 10 years.

Intense, toasty nose, with apples and lemon juice. Very well made, but lacks the precision and razor-sharp freshness and smoky minerality of the 2004, that is just a world class champagne (!). Riper and rounder in style. I would drink this while the 2004 matures. Drink.

Quite nice, though lacks intensity and depth I have come to expect from comtes, pretty subtle nose, of baking spice, florals, nice fresh pears, nice freshness in the mouth, effervescencehas some power to it, acidity is medium plus just lacks a bit of flavour, perhaps I am being overly critical but given expectations and the price ......
This surprised me, as it drank great and less tropical than I had expected. Good length and intensity, not the 2004 in terms of intensity, but I was digging it in my glass.

2015 Aspen Food & Wine Classic Trip; 6/17/2015-6/22/2015 (Aspen, Colorado): Medium yellow in color and with a brisk tiny bead, this blanc de blancs Champagne is distinctive and expressive. Gala apple, pear, almond and toast aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, crisply acidic palate which adds a twist of saline and citrus. The mouth texture is vibrant and the flavors stay solid in the middle. Long and tart on the back end, this is elegant bubbly which should be at its best over the next decade. Drink now-2025.

Pretty wine, but young. Served it a bit too cold as it was a little austere, but really opened up when it was cellar temp and warmer. Expressive nose with a hint of sherry. Rather pale and delicate lime-greenish color. Surprisingly restrained and closed nose, showing initially very little of anything else besides smoky reductive notes of gunpowder and flint. Slowly opens up to reveal aromas of very ripe citrus fruits, some autolytic brioche, a little bit of sweet red apple and a hint of developed nutty character. The wine is much more expressive on the palate with quite ripe and somewhat weighty character - probably in part emphasized by the moderately high dosage. There are expansive flavors of autolytic toasted bread, very ripe citrus fruits, some steely minerality, a little bit of nutty and slightly spicy complexity, a sweeter hint of orange marmalade and even a slightly candied touch of peach. The wine is high in acidity with very soft, gentle and creamy mousse showing good persistence. The finish is long, firm and very acid-driven with pronounced, tangy citrus notes of tart lemons and stony minerality along with sweeter tones of orange marmalade and peach candies, which fade away making room for more developed notes of nutty autolysis and bruised apples.
An impressive, complex and harmonious prestige cuvée, but also surprisingly ripe, even somewhat sweet and candied in style. Usually wines like these are dead-serious and bone-dry in style, so this marmaladey sweetness lends a hedonistic, but also somewhat less-serious crowdpleaser note to the wine. Nevertheless, this is a delicious, harmonious and remarkably structured wine with great finesse and sense of pedigree. Perhaps the sweetness was just something I really did not expect or then it's just the warm and very ripe vintage doing its own tricks here. Great stuff, but I have a hunch this vintage really can't hold a candle to the cooler surrounding vintages. Rather pricey at 131,20€, but aren't prestige cuvées all?

Drank for New Year's Eve. Bright light yellow; excellent mousse. More ripe than is typical for Blanc des Blanc on the nose and quite full on the palate. This seems very young and although not lacking in acidity it certainly doesn't seem acidic to me as others have noted. Lovely finish. Remainder drinks very well today. Drinks well but no hurry.

Drank for New Year's last nite. It's still quite a young wine and tastes as such. Slight floral aromas, and notes of bread in the nose. Some white fruit, flowers and citrus on the palate. Overbearing acidity at this time. Lacks depth & complexity at this point. Will it improve with age? Likely, but I doubt this will ever be anywhere near as good as the 2004 or 2002.

Christmas Champagne Tastings 2014: The nose was very pretty and flowery, with some apples and toast as well. The dosage seems low and this was confirmed on the palate. On the palate this seems a bit too young, but it is still very well balanced with beautiful fruity notes, but the acidity could probably use a couple of years to cool down. I don't think this will need long ageing, probably due to the warmth of 05, but in a couple of years time it might deserve a higher score. 93.

Champagne - 100 Vintage and NV Champagne; 12/15/2015-12/15/2020: During a vintage Champagne tasting at a Merchant. Nose of apple, apricot, yeast with a mineralic backbone. Very succulent to drink but with good length, pleases both oenophiles and occasional drinkers. A bit bubbly for my taste. 93+

Very nice. Very typically approachable. Sweet, fat, juicy, but not overly flabby. Not as acidic as 02 or 04, but more approachable than 04. Not quite the double barrel acid and power of 02 though. Typical Taittinger--well priced, enjoyable even when young, and should age well.

Amazingly strong aromatics of fresh angel food cake, sourdough, and lemon meringue. Drinking puffy clouds in the mouth, light, ethereal, yet fantastic intensity of flavor; super fine bubbles, long persistent finish. Great wine. Classic Comtes.

Crush's Annual Champagne Gala 2014 (Crush Wine & Spirits, Midtown Manhattan.): Another year, another Comtes. No doubt in my mind that this is a step down from the 04, and two down from the stellar 02. Mind you, this is CdC, so it's still excellent. The vintage shows right away in the nose - soft, floral, spice, bread - subdued at this point. The palate is bigger with bread, ginger, flowers, spicy. citrus. Good but not great. This simply doesn't have the laser focus of the 04, or the panoramic complexity of the 02. May improve a bit with time. Nose - 4.5+/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-16+/20.
Wow, what a stunner. I expected this to be somewhat tight but it was not. This has everything I want in Champagne. Intensity and freshness - minerals and acid. A tremendous food wine. Need more for now and later. My first taste of Comtes.

Being a Bordeaux junkie, I can not even pretend to possess the delicate palate that I feel is needed to pick champagne apart and enjoy. But I must say that every time I have had the pleasure of sipping vintage Champagne from Tattinger, in the form of a Blanc de Blancs, even a Champagne dummy like me is moved, enlightened, and inspired.
The wine component is pure, yet rich. The richness has a very creamy, caressing mouthfeel that carried into and through the long, rich finish.
The Champagne component is bright, and crisp, with the acidity in perfect check to bring freshness and balance out all the richness from the wine.
2014 K&L Champagne Tasting (K&L San Francisco Store): K&L Champagne Tasting-SF. Nose of baked apple tart, minerals, touch of yeast and spring flowers, more of the same on the palate, one of the first tasted today, bit subdued, opened slowly to rich and toasty, medium/big body, crisp acidity, well balanced, terrific finish! 2 years to peak, tasted 3 times today, similar results.

K&L Champagne Tent Tasting (K&L, San Francisco): A bit on the toastier side; palate is wonderful with full body but fabulous acidity that lifts the palate, lots of flavor; nice medium length finish. Wonderful balance. One of the best wines of the tasting and comparable to or better than the 04 Dom, 03 Krug, 06 Cristal. A great Comtes. 92-94

Old Bordeaux (Uncle Jack's): Very pretty nose with lemon oil, green apple, lots of floral and almond hints. The bubbles disappear quickly in the glass and this has a very fine, light mousse. Extremely tight at first, airy and pure but not especially rich, it puts on weight in the glass. Very BdBy and very good potential, I think this needs time or a lot of air. Probably my favorite wine of the night.

Powerful and elegant at the same time. Really drinking well now! A fantastic bottle that helped send our youngest off to college.

Spectacular. Drank as a first course with a lively crabmeat hoezel at oakmont cc in Pittsburgh. Refreshing acidity made for a bright flavor profile. Good body with apple lemon tart and brioche. So delicious everyone at the table had a puzzled draw dropping look ! Enough said. Drink it. Highly recommended and a good QPR in my opinion

Now this is a lovely drop of bubbly. Very structured but elegant at the same time. Nice soft mousse. High acidity which is a touch too much at the moment to balance the citrus, brioche, chalky minerals and hazelnut palate. The balance would be better at the moment taken with food or if allowed to get more bottle age. Incredible length (over 30s). Very nice indeed.

A stunningly good wine and for sure a just as lovely Champagne, the 2005 Comtes des Champagne is the prince which lingers on a bit behind regents like the 2000 and 2002 vintages. Still it is a remarkable wine, balancing power and elegance in a mind boggling way. The palate reveals classy mature green apple, lemon curd, light toast and as a dot over the "i", a lovely tone of sweet brioche. The palate follows through in a pleasant way with striking balance and a close to perfect structure. The acidity is shining through a bit too much in the end palate and slightly reduces my overall very positive impression. The wine gives a very "drinkable" impression and I do not see any reason not to enjoy this lovely effort as soon and as often you are given the chance!

Tasted from open bottle. Assume bottle was opened hours prior. Very open. Light / ethereal. Not a long ager maybe? Certainly delicious right now. Would score higher if it cost less. Great mouth feel. Some toasted oak? A touch of butter. All in a totally balanced package.

Pale color. Young and tight on the nose, peppery, with faint underlying citrus and grapey notes. Not a lot of depth on the palate, but clean, pleasant and generally consistent with the house style, although the alcohol peeked through more than is typical (12.5%).

Tasted alongside 2006 crystal - the precision and impressive balance of this champagne had me going back for more.. really neat to compare the vastly different styles of the two bubblys next to each other.. typically i prefer the richer style shown displayed in the crystal - but this lean, laser like, blanc de blanc was the bell of the ball in the this setting... if you can still get a good future price on this, i would say to go for it.. 93+

Interesting to try this already now. I can easily say that 05 will not be a vintage that will change a mans life. Very low in acidity and the structure really does not work. Probably the most disappointing Comtes de Champagne I have had since the shaky years in the 80´s.

Method: pop and pour (and then over a couple of hours); 54 degrees; Glasvin Champagne glass
Look: deep- gold; med+ amount of bubbles
Palate: lemon pith, buttermilk biscuit, bread crust; long- finish of chalk, minerality; dry; medium+ body; medium+ strength pinpoint bubbles; medium- acidity

Mogen reduktiv doft av krut, grädde, kaffe, med en härlig nötighet. Väldigt fina, små bubblor med en balanserad syra. Ordentlig kraft i vinet och välbalanserat, mycket vit persika och citrus.

Lush and really beautiful now albeit we dnt wee why this would not age a few more years :) 93

no decanting

On reveal, a bit less brioche than I usually get from Comtes, but overall a very nice showing.

94+ today.

At dinner.

Opened at Saltaire tonite. This is the 4th time I've had this wine this year and my notes remain consistent. Still on the young side. On the nose, some floral notes, but lots of bread and toasty aromas. Citrus elements up front with crisp acidity. Slightly dry, tart finish. Good length. Doesn't show as much in terms of depth or complexity as I'd like, but I'm optimistic that this will change over time. Not as good as the 2004 or 2002 vintages

Still youthful and very fruity nose.

100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in Côte de Blancs. 95% of the wine is fermented and aged for 4 months in stainless steel, 5% in small oak barrels (1/3 new) before the wine is blended in together and bottled. Aged for close to 10 years before disgorging. 12,5% alcohol, 6,4 g/l acidity, dosage 11 g/l.

Just fan-freaking-tastic!

Absolutely lovely and drinking great right now. No formal notes as we drank it at dinner a couple weeks ago.

Lovely dried fruit with flower petals and a touch of smoke. Extra smooth on the palate with well integrated and crisp acidity. Excellent stuff

Chardonnay - BYOB (Le Sommelier): Very strange expression at the moment. Seems very young but also odd. Some grapefruit flavors but also minerals. The fruit is very tight and dense.

Really, really hard to score right now. Acid is very high. Little fruit. Actually, I tasted nuts, possibly hazelnuts. I think it needs to be put away for 5 more years at least.

Latour Vertical Tasting; 12/19/2013-12/20/2013 (Switzerland): Out of Magnum: Light in color. Nose of granny smith apples and light walnut and brioche notes. Very smooth and a nice balance, long, very light and elegant for a Comtes de Champagne. The bubbles are very fine. Drink now - 2025.

All the fruit comes from the cote de blanc.
This wine is lovely. Very delicate, light and elegant. Very soft bubbles. Toasty on the nose. Lovely fruit on the palate. Lots of minerality.

BYO (Østerbro): Restrained nose showing only some minerals and a little citrus.
Intense citrus flavors with a lovely bitterness in the aftertaste. Also a great touch of grapefruit.
Long intense aftertaste and a big structure. Needs more age to really open up but overall a great first impression.

Le Salon du Vin de la Revue du Vin de France 2013 (Brussels): Rather closed at the nose, some lactic impressions, elderberry blossoms and toast. Lean acids on the palate, apple but rather closed, surely elegant however. Not a great showing at the moment, some more bottle aging will probably be beneficial.

Interesting to try this already now. I can easily say that 05 will not be a vintage that will change a mans life. Very low in acidity and the structure really does not work. Probably the most disappointing Comtes de Champagne I have had since the shaky years in the 80´s.
