Friday, January 22, 2016 - Sushi at Shinji. This was a massive village wine, in terms of quality and power. First from a case. Dark red, with an impressive bouquet of violets, rose petals, crushed blueberries, lavender and spice. I would use "slightly modern" as a description, but certainly very balanced and not extracted or overly oaky and sweet. The wine had a terrific structure, velvety tannins, and a mouthful of rich, red and blue fruit, with blueberries and strawberries, chocolate and pomegranate. With extended time, this took on a more savoury profile, with broiled meat, beef broth and earth, but still maintaining a good core of fruit and acid. What a magnificent village wine, a worthy competitor to the bottles of 2012 I drank earlier this year. If ever, there was a village wine you had to try to understand and picture the maker's 1er and Grand Cru standards and character, it would be an MSD from Dujac. Absolutely brilliant!
