93 Points

Monday, October 17, 2022 - The appearance of this wine is a clear indicator of the age, with its dirty shade of light garnet. Still a beautifully aged fruit laden Chianti that is anchored in distinct old world earthiness. Long, long finish...If you like aged wine, this is in the best place I have seen it, but the nose is now clearly pointing downward. DRINK

10/18/2022 10:50:00 AM - This looks lovely! Where did you get it? Have had the Carpineto 2016 again it is a fine 93! Thanks for your tasting input as always!

10/18/2022 10:56:00 AM - I bought 3 cases of this when I first discovered it around 2014....I have been quietly drinking through the cases and managed to get a hold of 3 mags too. This producer is in fact, in 2 notches above the beautiful Carpineto for about 30 bucks on release. Look for 2013, as I think that was the last great Selvapiana. Still have about 7 bottles left plus 2 mags! Will gladly drink any and all with you if you are in LA. Be well!

    * PS_I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the 2011 Pegau Reserve if you like Rhone.

    Will let you know!

7/16/2023 3:56:00 PM - I agree this wine ages beautifully. While visiting the winery in 2010, I had the chance to drink the 1979, which was remarkably fresh. We also had two bottles of 1980, one of which was too vegetal to be drinkable, the other being much better, but less alive than the 79.
