Clear medium red. Spicy floral red cherry and forest floor nose with mint and leather in the background. Delicious earthy red fruit flavours and a long balanced finish.
Loved this, best wine of the vertical.

The appearance of this wine is a clear indicator of the age, with its dirty shade of light garnet. Still a beautifully aged fruit laden Chianti that is anchored in distinct old world earthiness. Long, long finish...If you like aged wine, this is in the best place I have seen it, but the nose is now clearly pointing downward. DRINK
From magnum this was deliciously mature, earthy, fruit laden, and grippy long...Just a beautiful expression of Sangiovese's versatility of being elegant or hybrid, encroaching on Brunello. I would call this experience more Brunello than Chianti. Excellent! Drink

Bordeaux weight Chianti with the usual awesome balance of fruit and earth. This is now at peak and should be drank over the next 3 to 5 years while its in balance. It is now starting to show some secondary notes of scorched earth and savory herbs in the third stage of the bottle. Drink

Out of magnum, I was worried about some rustic tannin but this wine was fully resolved. Lots of tobacco and leathery nuance to the licorice tinged cherry sangiovese fruit. Really worked well at the table where a bit of time in the decanter brought out a bit more structure. Probably a wine I should add to the cellar.
Wow, this was great. Rich cherry fruit on nose and palate, an undertow of acidity to keep it balanced, perfectly integrated tannins and a long smooth finish (helped by the high alcohol content, which wasn't otherwise perceptible.) In a good place now, but probably at a peak for another five years, if not longer. From a magnum. 15%! Cork.

Compared with the recent 2009 of this cuvée, this was the more impressive and enjoyable. Minus the very ripe fruit of the 09, there is more balance and transparency. Very pure and delightful expression of Chianti.

Brought this bottle to dinner at La Barca. Drank and finished it in 2 hours! Excellent pairing with Parmigiana. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour with slight garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dusty Tuscan earth, dark red cherries, black cherries, meaty beef broth, and rocky minerality with more air. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (15%), fine grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of glossy black cherries, sour red cherries, dark red cherries, beefy meat, earth, rocky stones minerality, some cinnamon spice integrated oak with more air. Medium+ finish. Very good quality. Open-knit big flavourful Chianti Rufina. In drinking window. Single vineyard Bucerchiale. 100% Sangiovese. 15 months in 10% new French oak barriques.

Pop. Wanted a bit of Sangiovese. Beautiful dark ruby color with a nose that shows nice fragrance of cherries, flowers and rust. In the mouth it attacked you with firm tannins that gives way to a basket of cherries, cinnamon, dusty rose and spices. I have had many vintages of this wine and it never disappoints. Good showing tonight.

This is still every bit as delicious as it always was. Its got earth, lush fruit, violets, and now its starting to develop a little sweet balsamic note that bends and reshapes it in a new, deeper direction. While its very alive and delicious now, I will try to open one of these every few months to enjoy them in their fresher state. A very deep, complex Chianiti that once again drank more like a hybrid Brunello. The hidden 15% alcohol will eventually start arm wrestling the fruit and win....DRINK

I agree with the note on August 2017: not your typical sangiovese wine, but not unusual considering the vintage. Hefty and dark, lots of darker fruit and alcohol peeking through (15%!). Just a hint of acidity. Full body for a chianti, very internationally styled (don't know if this is due to the vintage or just the producer's style). Showing some evolution in colour.
I really want to like it more than I actually do now - I expected more. It's not bad, but not great either. A rather "anonymous" chianti. Lacking finesse. A few years back, I would have liked this a lot more I think. Reminds me a little of Priorat. Ready to drink now and in the coming years, I don't see this improving.

5 ore di decanter non sono bastate. Tannino ruvido, alcool invadente, cuoio e poco altro. Vediamo domani...

Dark ruby with sweet fruit. Moderately high alcohol with tannins starting to feel rough. Feels like it is starting to approach end of drinkability window.
This version of Selvapiana has always been on the hefty side, far from the more elegant and high-acidity Rufinas from this (and other) producers. Deep ruby colour, hefty aromas of stewed cherries (does that exist?), plums, dry wood and a hint of alcohol. Full bodied, round tannins (or perhaps just hidden by large amounts of sweet fruit and alcohol), sweet cherry and plum fruit, a hint of alcohol on a long finish. Not very elegant, but Chiantis does not get any more full bodied than this. If you like that style (my wife calls it American), this is really good value.

This was very tannic, with ripe cherry fruit that left a bitterness on the finish. I am used to Felsina and this was nothing like that. It worked with tonight's pizza, but I would prefer less ripeness, which could be a result of the warm vintage.

Modestly aromatic. Tobacco, leather and diffuse ripe fruits. Medium-full bodied with lingenberry fruit, but not much spice, tannin or acidity. Seems to have suffered from the heat of the vintage. This is a real disappointment compared to some previous vintages. Perhaps this is an off bottle. 84-87?

A private lunch (Restaurant Margot, London, UK): A rare magnum (only 600 were produced) under Coravin. Typical Rufina elegance, lovely spicy Sangiovese character, floral lift, warmth from the older wood, medium body, transparent, gentle phenolic grip, freshness and morbidezza, good length. Stylish.

Well, I really loved the '09 of this. So I was pleasantly surprised when the '11 was just as good. This is a really beautiful Chianti. Everything in balance, some real elegance and complexity to it. And delicious, absolutely delicious. There are a lot of different styles of Chianti out there, but for pure deliciousness and balance I'm having a hard time thinking of anything else I'd go for.
From memory: Delivers what you would hope for in a Riserva – lots of food friendly Chianti goodness turned up a couple of notches. Plenty of depth and structure. Lovely today, but will probably be even better three to four years down the line (92-93 points).

Wow! This is such a leap above most Chianti that it drinks like a cross between a brunello and barolo. Just as good as the fantastic 2009, with a longer drinking window ahead...Lots of earthiness with acid counterbalanced sweetness, and a dry, long, structured finish. The finish makes this wine for me... A value wine that is hard to find and worth finding. QPR doesnt need to get much better than here....Drink or hold...

Dark garnet in color. Fragrant & attractive of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries and plums with overtones of cedar, earthy/dusty, floral notes of roses, leather, dried herbs, spices, anise, minerals, oak & a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, tart cranberries and mulberries with spices, cocoa, herbs, minerals, oak & a touch of vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and extended airing but will continue to develop and benefit from additional aging.

Robust bouquet of rich, dark Sangiovese in Tuscan terroir, including herbs, dust, and sanguinity. Elegant, if powerful texture and weight, generous, bracing, and long. It needs time to unwind. Drink from 2018.

Needs 3-5 years or 3-4 hour decant. Otherwise not running at full throttle.
Dark red color. No sediment. On nose, underbrush, sour cherry (with several hours of air), black cherry. On palate, medium+ body, red licorice, sour cherry, bright cherry with high acidity and medium tannins. Long finish. 90-91 with little air and 92-93 with some air. Well buy some more and cellar. Decant if drinking now!

Medium nose shows licorice, dried cherry, old cedar, stewed raspberry. Palate more expressive, tasty layers of earthy red fruit, forest floor, wet leaves, raspberry, medium plus acidity, medium plus tannins and finish, medium complexity. Delicious, great example of type.

This has the freshness of the 2011 vintage that I've noticed across the board this week in Chianti, but this one is notable because it is rather inward-looking and compact, while still very delicious. Five years in the cellar should losen this one up. Another successful Bucerchiale, this one more stern than I recall the 2004 on its release. At Armando al Pantheon in Rome.

VinItaly Day 3 (Verona, Italy): 100% Sangiovese; pretty crimson, see through; dense rose, sour cherry, strawberry, very youthful on the nose; dense rich mouthfeel, good mid palate, smoother tannin, sharp cherry, underripe strawberry; needs time for these firm acids to settle, should be very good though.

From memory: Delivers what you would hope for in a Riserva – lots of food friendly Chianti goodness turned up a couple of notches. Plenty of depth and structure. Lovely today, but will probably be even better three to four years down the line (92-93 points).

Very interesting Chianti. It delivers great fruit and a surprisingly full body. The real game changer was the notes of dried flowers and herbs that accented the finish. Perfect food wine.

A very dense and structured wine on day 1. Really tight over the first two hours. Day 3, this really blossomed. Really needs another couple years in bottle, or a monster decant.

It smells like vanilla, dust and oak. It tastes of fruit, cherry and tobacco. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. Great wine !

Floral, good density, sweet and spicy with good freshness--always good freshness with this domain. Ripe cherry, licorice, and very young. Good for drinking, better for keeping.
