Tuesday, May 11, 2021 - 14.5% alcohol; 45 mm composite cork with an aroma of cork, dates, figs, maybe Manuka honey, a maximum of 5 mm wine penetration; light to medium weight foil; medium legs, inky purple; opened, vinturied and tasted 15 minutes later at approximately 14 degrees C; fruit-forward nose of dates, figs, kiwi, immersed in alcohol; medium bodied, 3 months of aging in Bourbon whiskey barrels has not overwhelmed the original Cab flavor, but rather has contributed to it, as it was meant to. In this case, the unusual Beigeschmack (accompanying taste) of dates/figs & New Zealand honey/fruit is its expression; the residual bitterness in the medium to long finish is part of the character of the wine, and not a reason to reject it out of hand; pair with cheeses, nuts, grilled pork or beef
