Thursday, September 8, 2022 - Guy's Night: Open Your Last Bottle (Jason P's, St. Paul, MN): Very dark red color, 6mm transitional margin. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. Drank this next to the '70 Figeac. It was quite a bit bigger and more youthful at this point. But not really as giving, at least for awhile. The nose is reclusive, though it certainly evolves over the first hour plus to show cassis, exotic spices, boysenberry, and touches of blueberry compote. The palate is dark fruited, still dense and full bodied, tart black cherry, black and blue fruits, savory later, wood spice, and a citric note. Soft tannins that linger a bit on the finish. This improved over the 3 hours so there appears to be plenty of life left and maybe some room for improvement. 92+pts.
