Friday, September 24, 2021 - This ripe and layered Cabernet needs another few years to unfold, but it is delicious right now (in an explosive and forward way - not always what you associate with the Harlan family, but this works). This had more depth and character than a 2015 Realm Crane tonight, so - second wine or not - this is the real deal.
Dark red in color and full in body, the wine offers heady aromas of blackberry, rosemary, mocha, graphite, and mulberry. The flavors are generous and integrated, with notes of black cherry, dark chocolate, baking spices, and anise, with a silky and lingering finish. 14.8% alcohol. Promontory unplugged, or something. What a wine.

Promontory when I tried it was a very reserved, a more elegant wine which took me off guard considering Bond. Penultimate have more concentration and core of fruit from what I recall. So your take on unplugged is a good one. In your opinion how does this compare to Harlan Estate?

10/21/2021 8:08:00 AM - I love reading your reviews! I have yet to crack one of these, or any Promontory wine, but I do like reading the reviews! They suck me into keep buying without trying! I will get to taste them this December in Napa, so very much looking forward to the trip! I am not complaining, but I don't under you guys opening these expensive wines so young....I am glad they drink well though with a healthy decant, as I feel time is no longer my friend! Thank you posting on this wine (and the other vintages)! You notes and insight is appreciated!
