Wednesday, February 21, 2024 - A Delightful Cab that seems to be gaining traction. 94+/ 95 Points

Day 2: Showing more weight on the palate, more depth of flavors, blue and blackberry fruit, cassis, anise/black licorice-like aspect, real nice extraction.

2/22/2024 4:31:00 AM - Good to hear. I haven’t popped one in a while because I thought it was previously a little closed/not overly expressive on day one but quite good on day two.

2/22/2024 7:02:00 AM - I discovered Mike's Cabs about 15+ years ago and I believe this 2021 vintage may be his best effort ever, in my opinion. Others are entitled to their opinion about his style of winemaking, but I really enjoyed his Cab's. As the kid's might say: "It's all good"

2/22/2024 7:11:00 AM - I hear you - I fully agree. Once again, I’m having a very hard time finding any cabs that compete with his cabs at around $100 and below for the money.

2/22/2024 7:34:00 AM - Hard to resist on day one but I believe all of them are showing a little better on day two - at least the wines that I’ve had lately.

3/6/2024 5:29:00 AM - Interesting that besides one other individual you and I are the only ones that have reviewed this wine. It appears that a lot of people missed out on this vintage. I just bought some more - hard to beat for the money in my opinion. Curious if you bought any of the single vineyard 2021 Pellet cab? I tend to prefer Kenefick Ranch and haven’t bought the Pellet cab in a while but this vintage appears to be a good one for the Pellet vineyard as well.

3/6/2024 8:13:00 AM - I had the opportunity to pick up a bottle of the 2021 but I have not been impressed with this label over the years. I don't see any notes on this vintage on Cellar Tracker, I assume that you have not tried it? Question, do you subscribe to Wine-Searcher Pro?

3/6/2024 8:44:00 AM - I didn’t buy any and haven’t bought it for years - I’ve always preferred Kenefick Ranch and the Napa cab for the money. I don’t subscribe to Wine Searcher Pro. Almost everything that I’ve been buying lately out of State has been direct from wineries. In addition, since Michigan is a restricted shipping State it’’s difficult to get wine in the secondary market through Wine Searcher. Although there are a couple boutique stores that I buy from which apparently don’t abide by the rules.

3/6/2024 9:39:00 AM - That's unfortunate about shipping restrictions to your state, at times there are real values that are available when purchased out of state. I know you don't like Petie Verdot (it's not my favorite either), but have you ever tried Cabs from Drinkward Peschon?

3/6/2024 10:20:00 AM - I have had some of their wines but it has been a little while since my last tasting - I believe it was the 2014 vintage a couple years ago. A friend of mine buys direct from them but as you touched upon they do tend to blend with some petit verdot which just isn’t my thing.
