Monday, January 4, 2010 - I'm a fan of Charvin's wines and wanted an early data point on this young one. Nose of raspberry fruit, flowers, forest and tea, with zero heat. Quite young, the palate shows good concentration, powdery tannin, red fruit and tea, more Burgundian and classy than powerful. Lovely, juicy finish. Half the bottle remains to see how it developed overnight. Obviously an infant, but I have every confidence that this will develop into yet another excellent Charvin Chateauneuf. UPDATE: No degradation overnight. The wine actually tightened up and was not as expressive, although, again, the raw materials are very promising. Let this one sleep for three years or so before trying again.
