Thursday, April 23, 2020 - Absolutely beautiful aged Cali cab.....it is perfectly balanced with strong fruit remaining, great color and cab nose. The first 10 minutes has just a tad of pruney raisin on the nose but it leaves and there remains just a perfect aged Napa nose with briar and a hint of pine. Everything has receded and balanced out to leave you with a perfect 'food' wine much like the '05 Haut Bailly I had a few days ago. This will not suffice for those Cali cab fiends who just sit and sip. You must have food. Nice.......

In spite of this bottle having decent fruit left it drank just tame, or flat. Kinda like when you have half that bottle of Coke and put the cap back on. You go back in the fridge 2 days later to finish it and you find it flat, devoid of any fizz? I guess maybe this bottle was a tad weak on the acidity? At least that's what this seemed like. It was still very good, just not outstanding to me. I only recently picked this bottle up at auction so who knows how it's been stored the last 13 years?

It’s funny your notes/comments sum up (for the most part) my experience with Dunn.

4/24/2020 11:15:00 AM - Lite....thanks for the follow-up note. I really liked this wine and came real close to a higher score. Like I said in my other comment, I don't know how it was stored before I got it. I haven't had enough experience with Dunn's wines to know if they normally drink with lower acidity as their norm. I'm perfectly fine with an aged Cali cab as I am with an aged BDX, I like the flavor profile and the feel but many on here including my girl and HMC really don't. All the wines we had last night were just a little off in their own way.

I think your big bottle will probably hold up better than this 750 did and I'm sure you've been storing it properly since birth. It's going to be a great 'food wine' for you!
