Friday, August 20, 2021 - I'm not much of an expert when it comes to port wine, nor do I drink it - although I do love Sauternes, to the extreme - But a friend of mine introduced me and I wanted to give it a go, with this producer.

- Tasted from half bottle (more than enough)
- Consumed over 4 hours
- Took out of the fridge after spending three days, then I left it open for 30 minutes.
- Tasted with chocolate truffles

The nose:
Very high alcohol (of course) comes right up. After that i have oak, prune, plum and blueberry. The finish ends with chocolate.

The palate:
Spices and pepper at first. Then I've got the same fruity notes from the nose, I've oak, chocolate, brown sugar and caramel, raisin and figs. A little marzipan kind of finish.

The wine was great. There was a great sweetness to it, the different characters what delicious and I like that there's some other notes than "the usual" you've get from red and white wine etc. but of course the alcohol and acidity, was quite high.

Personally, I think that it would do good with a decant, just a few hours. AND I would not serve it too cold, but cellar temperature should do it. The wine will get more smooth.

Overall I'm a fan! But I can see through other notes here that this is too young now. I don't know myself, but due to a much needed decanting of this wine, maybe it is too young.

Not the last time I've tried this.

Always decanted for an hour or so unless very young. Ie less than 15 years old. Modern vintage port is made to be more approachable when young in relative terms but it still shuts down like most good red wine. As it is fortified to about 20% alcohol it will keep a few days when opened and decanted with no rush to consume.

But thank you for the inputs! That's worth knowing next time, I'll have a vintage port 👍
