Saturday, April 19, 2014 - Earth was dominant on the nose straight out of the (venturi poured) bottle, and at 55 degrees was somewhat muted. At that temperature, the left bank style that Meteor references showed up more prominently than it did as the wine opened and warmed. As it warmed, the nose transitioned to black fruit and mocha with a bi-polar intensity; again, left bank and Napa all at once in one glass. At this point in time (April 2014) I find the finish to be too thin - mostly because the Napa fruit is still overtaking the Bourdeaux style and it doesn't fulfill on the nose's promise. I think this will change over time and evolve into a wine with tremendous depth and appeal. While it is not in the traditional Napa cult style, and perhaps not similar to more recent, traditional Private Reserves, I find it interesting and compelling to see how it evolves over time, even if not in the mainstream Napa style. This is still way, way youthful. If you have a few it is worth a check-in now. If not, stow it away and forget it for a while. Can't go wrong either way. Score [ 50 + 5 + 13 + 17 + 9 = 94 ]
