Dark fruit, new leather, tilled soil combine with the well integrated oak. Great depth and texture. The aromatics are singing nicely. Year in year out, this Napa Cabernet delivers at a high level. This has at least ten years of great drinking in its future. Great juice.

Even better than the 2005 I tried last month. Decanted 2 hours and enjoyed throughout the evening. Easily in its drinking window and has alot of legs left

Tried to decant for 2 hours, but wifey got impatient. Opened up nicely after about 3 hours. We have properly cared for this wine, and would recommend that you drink it now.

A smooth drinking wine that was well balanced on the palate. Cinnamon and nutmeg dominated both the nose and palate, but not much else. The bold cabernet fruit characteristics of this wine did not shine through as well as I recall in earlier vintages. No secondary or tertiary characteristics yet. Hold.

Ruby, ripe, bright fruit florals. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum, boysenberries, dark cherries, haunting blue fruits, poached strawberries, dry cranberries, black tea with mid fruit, anise, mid to dark spice for days, some pepper, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, vanilla, light, dark raisins, older tobacco, new leather, light graphite, crushed rocks/limestone, dry top soil, dark rich soil with dry leaves, chewy leather, slight mint, dry herbs, fresh to slightly withering red, dark, blue florals framed in violets. Acidity is magnificence, well structured, balanced, 50-50 fruit and soft earth finish that lasts minutes.

One of my favorites. Has many more years left. Great tannins, full nose of berry, cedar and slight vanilla. Some musty leave smell from the glass (very pleasant).

In a fantastic spot. WotN by most of the table. Fully integrates tannins, lovely dark fruit, medium plus body, no sense of ovet extraction or too much oak. Just an fantastically balanced napa cab. Drank well without food. These went fast at the table

Took a while to soften, Sat in a decanter for 1 1/2 hours. Only at the end did we feel the roundness. Kept half the bottle for 2 days and enjoyed it more. Slight Bordeaux style though the Napa Cab boldness was prominent.

I’ve had a fair amount of either 5-7yr old PR or 20-30yr old PR, but never one in-between. I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable this was, and seems to be drinking at peak (but certainly not fading, at least this example).
Pop and pour. Deep purple with no fading. Couldn’t believe how Bordeaux-esque this smelled! Wow. Kiss of brett to it, just enough to make it interesting. Brambly black fruits, leather, herbs de Provence, vanilla pipe tobacco too. Supremely well balanced on the palate…baked dark fruits in a dense but tantalizingly elegant profile. Integrated oak in the background. Sweet tannin on the finish. Followed over two days and stayed strong. If I could find more of these at a good price, I’d jump on them.

A delicate wine with lots of subtle character and balance. Easy drinker on Christmas, but no real raves from the party. Because everything was in place, nothing really stood out to make it special. Lacked fruit power and seems to be fading.

I don't know. Opened Dec. 23 and finished Xmas Eve. Enjoyed first night open, but second night seemed like flavors out of line. May have been me and all the Xmas eve food.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour with our beef dinner. Opened this for Christmas Eve dinner for my family. Didn't spend a lot time with it. Dark bruised fruit, plum, black cherry, black berry, five spice, port like, pepper, full bodied, but seems to be lurking near the edge. Saved some for a closer look tomorrow.

Cork pulled good, no infiltration, deeply dark purple stain, and cork slightly soft. No bouquet all all upon opening. Opened at 3pm. Tasted pretty decent. Two days later, there is absolutely no fruit. The mouth feel is decent but fruit went poof. Wine should be opened now, with a short decant, and possibly in one sitting. A good many reviewers indicate bringer is age worthy, but my experience says should be consumed in 10-15 year window.

Decanted using screened aerating funnel into flat bottomed decanter at noon. Started to sip at 5:30, nice cassis and red dust, good balance, and fairly deep but limited complexity. Wonderful with simple Waygu steak dinner with round tannins and soft acidity. Continued to evolve until 9PM, by then it was very soft, round and full with very deep black fruits and fully integrated with tannins, fruit, minerality and acidity melded into one.

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Powerful blackberry aromas came forth durng decant which did leave some slight sediment in the screen. After resting, wine was still purple in the bowl with only a slight lightening towards the rim. There was a small halo. Nose was of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, bitters and damp earth. In the mouth: deep fruit, lovely balance; still quite fresh. Black fruit conserve; dried cranberry topped with herbs and followed by a little vanilla. Very long finish. Made for a good steak, lamb or big game. Tannins were rounded but still there. Plenty of time left for these.

A well made and satisfying cabernet, but seemed to fall short of my expectations for this 2007 version. Was a bit surprised, because many of the 2007 cabernets I've had have retained really incredibly fruit, even 15 or so years down the line. This one was more about balance and finesse, with the fruit not quite as forward as I was expecting. Nevertheless, a good wine but not great. Have one more and will open within 5 years. Was it possible the wine was in a 'dumb' phase? Hard to call as I don't know if that is the case or in decline.

I will preface this by saying that this wine was kept for probably 7 years in a cellar that had slightly suboptimal temperature and humidity. This wine is right down the middle right now. Neither showing the exuberance of youth nor the complexity of age. It is showing both. The nose is blackberry, black cherry, fig, aged brambleberry, wildflowers, and this is echoed at the palate as well. The wine is definitely not unidimensional as you see in a lot of the current high dollar "Napacabs" as this one seems to celebrate what makes this wine a complex and representative sample of what Napa Valley has to offer versus what one producer has to offer. Finishes with a lot of black fruited character. Really enjoyable wine. I would decant for about 3 hours if opening this one again. Serve them a little bit of bourbon to peak their interest first.

Really really good. Drank out of a magnum over two nights. Was just as good if not better on the second night. Leads me to believe this wines got many more years ahead of it if you like a more earthy flavor. If you want the big Napa fruit drink now. Definitely one of my favourite NAPA producers. One more bottle in the cellar which I’ll wait another decade to drink

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of aspirin, smoke, pepper, cherries and a hint of dust. Flavors of black raspberries, black cherries and black boysenberries. Medium to tangy acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold.
Showing much better than the last bottle I had. Maybe another point or more upside potential as well.

Fruit forward, concentrated classic Napa Cab that has dark, blackberry, plum-like fruit. Notes of cassis, dark chocolate and tobacco with soft silky tannins after a hour decant. Normally, we finish a bottle but in this case, left half of it for day two and it was even better with the fruit and tannins even more fully integrated..almost two different ratings.

First bottle of the 07. From a batch purchased close to release, in my cellar since. Splash decanted, drank over 90 minutes
Dark, inky ruby core color, minor thinning at the edge. Nose jumps out of the glass...dark fruit, blackberry, cassis, tobacco. Rich and luxurious palate showing blackberry, plum, brambly dark fruit, kirsch, chocolate, mineral. Smooth texture is notable, rich and viscous. Full body and finish.
Beringer Private Reserve is a consistently good wine, in my experience. Classic Napa Cab, big and expressive. Style may not be may not be for everyone...Wine improved over the time we drank it. Would give this more air time with next bottle

This was a very good wine. Well balanced and rounded. On the nose was bing cherry, rhubarb, hints of tobacco, chocolate and vanilla. On the pallet it was fruit forward, red fruit, rhubarb, ginger, tobacco, nutmeg, candied apple. Some minerality with pencil shaving or slate. Body was medium+ acidity medium ++ with medium tannins. This was close to peak but could have lasted another 2 to 5 years. Paired with Hibachi filet mignon and shrimp. Wish I had another bottle. Overall a great representative of a solid nap cab. Great effort by Beringer.

Initially I thought the wine might be corked but was good enough to finish. It continued to improve in the glass and I thought this was a Bordeaux blend. balanced with pepper and spice, I ended up really enjoying the wine. Best on 2nd day

Even better than my last bottle which is saying something. Enjoyed with friends at Hitching Post. What an experience with food, wine, and amazing friends. I thought the nose had smoke, pepper, and some earthiness to it. The palate had tobacco, pepper, cassis, a hint of vanilla, and a Bordeaux like structure to it. This was a beautiful wine tonight. Beringer makes same amazing top end reserves that can truly compete with some of the worlds best wines. Highly recommended and this can hold at this peak level for five-ten years I think easily. I still have a half a case left.

Lots of tobacco with some pepper and other spices on the nose. Spices also prominent in flavors, where they are nicely mixed with blackberry, cassis, and blueberry. Fresh structure with still strong tannins. The wine is already enjoyable, but still quite young with a potential to greatly improve with more aging. I'd wait for ~5 years before opening the next bottle...

Deep dark purple with rose-violet at the edges. Cinnamon dominates the nose with mixed berries underneath. Thick, chewy tannins with rich blackberries and a bit of coffee and blackberry seed underneath. Rich vanilla and milk chocolate join the melange in the finish. Unctuous texture. Still drinking young.

Popped and poured from split. This is a medium red wine. On the nose, I get black currants, tobacco, and green peppers. In the mouth, this is lush and sweet with an obvious minty note. The finish is equally smooth and full. Overall, this is a polished wine, but it is a product, for better or worse. 90 points.

Had in a vertical with 1983. Contrast, but still personality themes. This was certainly fruit forward, but more relaxed and integrated compared to last bottle a couple of years ago. Beringer PV is so consistent (have had many different vintages) and always carries both depth and elegance. To me the 2007 is just now entering the early window with a one hour decant, but will go for many years and mature into something much more complex / secondary.

Purity of fruit hits me. Drinking fine now. Full body, dark red fruit into blue and black as the evening went on. No graphite or tobacco notes; just subtle but noticeable changes in the fruit notes as the evening went on. Maybe some cocoa ? Chocolate? at the end. Some depth, dark and lovely. Liked it, will have my last bottle in 2022 ...
Drank beside a 2009 Realm BTK and held its own but didn't have as beautiful an entry or finish -- it was a Joe Frazier to Realm's Muhammed Ali. The two heavyweights put on a show! Beringer was somewhat tight up front (victim of PnP in a restaurant with no decanter) with a long uppercut of a finish filled with graphite, rocks, cigar box and coffee grounds. Fruit arrived after an hour or so of slow ox which added back needed pleasure. In the end it was bested by a Realm that floated like a butterfly while delivering a knockout blow of complexity and balance.

Plush wine with classic cassis and sweet dark fruit. Tannins are resolved and there is an underlying maturity coming through at this stage. I tasted a bit of bell pepper on the finish which detracted from otherwise very good wine.

This has evolved a lot since I last tasted it 3 years ago. No longer youthful, the flavor profile shows plenty of maturity. Tannins are well integrated, seems like this is in its peak drinking window. Very classic in style at this point, very Bordeaux-like, I probably liked it slightly more before when it was younger and more fruit forward but I suspect that old world fans will really enjoy this now.

A beautiful example of how good a Cali Cab can be. This bottle was drinking youthful even at 11 year old. Nice layers of integrated flavors and a long lasting lush medium tannic finish. This wine can easily go another 11 years, if you can keep your hands off of it for that long - doubt we will.
Opened by Bill. This was the youngest vintage of this wine I have had. The others being the 1987, 1992 and 1997. Seems to be entering its' prime though. Very old world in character. Earthy notes with burnt meat, black pepper and currant. Round finish and integrated tannins. 93+ points.

Nose of black berry, black cherry, and allspice, same on the palate, big body, near peak drinking, poured a glass and waited one hour, really elegant, mouth filling fruit, better the second night than the first, will easily last another ten years, more Napa Cabernet Sauvignon than the vintages of the 1980's, and a long, flavorful finish and aftertaste.

Popped and poured from split. This is a solid red wine with notes of mint and pencil shavings on the nose. In the mouth, this is smooth and lush with medium black fruit — the lushness pulls through on a finish in which the tannins are nicely integrated. Overall, this is a solid, right-down-the-line CA cab. 91 points.

Elegant napa cabernet demonstrating nuanced red and black fruits with balanced tannin. Very old school by napa standards and one that can take years in the cellar and likely develop further nuance and interesting tertiary flavors.

Rekindles my love of Beringer PR, going back 20 years. This is middle of the fairway stuff, why we learned to love Napa cab in the first place. Just great flavors, depth and balance. Nothing exotic necessary. Wish I had more. Drink anytime.

Terroir-istes International - USA - California, Napa General (Cape Town Law offices): (Tasted Blind): A deep black garnet/mahogany colour that extends to the rim. There are signs of age on the nose, with tertiary fruit aromas, undergrowth, forest floor, and dried leaves. The wine is intense and complex, but the wine seems slightly cork-affected. The palate, unfortunately, shows signs of TCA infiltration, although not severely. It retains some fruit flavours, but a noticeable conflict with the taint leads to some drying notes.

First bottle from OC of 6. Poured into decanter and drank over 5h. This needs a good 1h of air as the wine is initially fairly closed and thin. Dark garnet with translucent rim. Very pretty nose with dark fruit, tobacco and pepper. On the palate initially bell peppers nicely balancing the dark fruit, with more air the body gains weight with very ripe dark fruit (for my taste overripe given some tar notes) and the green notes disappear in the background. Overall the palate is a bit foursquare and not at the level of the nose. Medium tannins. Medium length. Decant or better wait another 5 years with this wine. 92+ My first bigger 07 Cali Cab and I find this a bit disappointing. 07 is supposed to be a great California vintage vs a poor (07) vintage in Bordeaux. Still, at the same price point, the 07 Bordeaux (say 2007 Pichon Baron or Cos d'Estournel) is a much better balanced and elegant wine to drink today. Might be different in 5-10 years, but let's see.

04 - 07 Beringer Vertical Tasting (My House): This was the favorite of the night. There was red fruit and spice with a sweetness on the nose. The palate was rich red fruit with a medium-long finish. This is an excellent wine that is drinking well now and probably still has another 5 years.
From magnum. Drinking beautifully in its early drinking window. A high-quality, classic Napa Cab with delicious fruit at a good price point compared to similar wines. Drank with Thanksgiving dinner.

Really great fruit, tannins much more integrated than the last bottle, still deep purple with no noticeable bricking, really well made wine. Years ahead of it but don't see it getting better, really in a good spot now for this wine.

Enjoyed over two days. The loud bouquet features varietal characteristics, including currant, peppers, graphite, and herbaceousness, along with copious purple fruit and high-quality, integrating oak. Powerful core of purple fruit and quality oak up front, then the varietal elements come forward. Fine 'sweet' tannins show at the back and the stalwart finish offers currant, pepper, and gravel notes.
On the second day the wine drank like a modernly styled Bordeaux, from Graves in particular. Rocky, herbaceous, earthiness showed prominently. The back and finish featured appealing textural weight and sweet dusty tannins.
As a Napa Valley wine, though modern, it features notable varietal correctness and though partially masked by oak, appealing terroir notes make their mark. As a New World, Left Bank tribute wine, which this is at least reminiscent of, this makes a serious impression. While certainly enjoyable now, after decanting, it remains quite young, and needs three to five years to fully integrate. It should last for twelve to fifteen years thereafter. 93-95.
Napa Valley Master Class with Robert Parker; 11/10/2016-11/20/2016 (Napa Valley): During a Napa 2007 horizontal tasting guided by Robert Parker. Nose of dark fruit, earth, quite rustic and heavily charred oak but not uninteresting. Impression gets confirmed on the palate. Ripe fruit with serious tannins, rustic but not drying. A step down from the cult wines in this line up but held its own.

I really enjoyed this bottle as the 2007 vintage is really proving itself. This was so very balanced and reminded me of a fine St Julien Bordeaux. I chilled this in the freezer for about twenty minutes because I hate hot red wine and summers are tough to drink reds unless you chill them. I found this ready to go without a decant with velvet smooth tannins. Nose was Classic Cabernet with cedar, dried fruit and spicy notes. Nice long finish that paired with marinated flank steak and fresh from our garden green beans. Outstanding wine.

This wine needs at least a 4-5 hour decant to coax out its power. I did 2 hour decant and only after 20 min in the glass did it begin to come alive. And i felt there was plenty more to uncover. No score because of mute start but will live up to its pedigree and score.

Decanted about 6 hours, then consumed over the next 24. Tannins very nicely integrated. Soft fruit flavors, not jammy at all. Violet notes. Starting to taste like it may be starting to recede. Not as much depth as I'd expect at this price point. Frankly, a little disappointing.
PHMG WAG: Battle BV. Beaulieu vs Beringer Napa Cabs. (Lyon Again): Wow! This was close, two great wines and my favorite Beringer of the night. Also the first bottle empty. Deep blackberry, plum, mocha, spice, and oak dominate the profile, but you can find other things going on. Ripe fruit, good depth, and some structure is the lasting impression, which is why you opened a Cal Cab in the first place right? Now-2027, depending on how you like 'em. 5 out of 11 votes.

Spectacular wine. Finish lasts for two minutes. The Beringer Private Reserves are unbelievable in their consistency. Big fruit. Well integrated tannins. This glass came from a 375/half bottle which probably helped. I have a 1.5 of this and I am sure that it will be more backward. Great wine. Great nose. Well integrated, complex, layered fruit. Purple violet color with aromatic and very appealing black cherry, blackberry, cassis, licorice, violet, and a bit of roast coffee aromas. On the palate it's harmonious, focused, and long with a supple texture with firm tannins and blackberry, cassis, red currant, flavors with a bit of dark chocolate. Long finish Still young but showing the promise of what's to come; 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc.

Probably the best Private Reserve I have had recently from Beringer. Opened at CBCC last night. Tasted from a magnum. Much more classic than new world for a cabernet. Elegant and lush with all the notes mentioned in the other reviews. This Beringer PR is a great wine value as it drinks well over its price tag even at over $ 100/ bottle

This one is turning darker. Very old world style. Have 16 left after today's wine was uncorked. Blackberry core throughout, but showing evidence of fig, rhubarb pie, in the middle -- a little earthy and gritty. Wine is still very luscious on the front, full bodied, peppery and rather tannic on the finish still. This wine is not as "happy go lucky" as it was the last time I enjoyed it. I think I'm liking where it's going. The wife guessed that it was merlot and malbec. Considering that she likes the first guess and hates the second, I'm not sure what she thinks about it! But it kind of drinks like a hybrid between the two but not so much malbec. I hesitate to rate this one at all right now, as I've already given it two 94's and really kind of keep my rating there at the moment. Turning into a great old world style cab. Bravo Beringer!

Wonderful wine. Didn't require nearly as much to get it going as I thought. Still, after 3 hours, this one was rather restrained. This one drank very similarly to the 7/22/12 notes that I made (and I'm really rather amazed that I was able to not drink any of these for almost 3 yrs). Black fruit on the front, LOTS of pepper on the finish. Compared to a 2008 Aloft Cab that this one was enjoyed side by side with, this one was actually more bold and peppery, whereas the Aloft was more of an elegant wine. The fruit has shown, but not to its true potential. I rate this one NR today as I feel that I have enough 94's to weight the final rating appropriately (and it really hasn't changed past this at the moment). Drink 2016-2040.

Excellent full body flavors. Very dark in color. Flavors of dark fruit, dark choc, and a huge cedar taste. This was the strongest cedar flavor in any wine I have ever had. Like sucking on a piece of cedar for 2 seconds. Wine was a huge hit for the night, Very pleasant and easy to drink. Very smooth. Tannins were not over powering but it still needs a few years in the bottle.

From a 375 poured through a Vinturi and into the decanter. I normally would have waited longer but picked up some 375's about a year and a half ago. This is the last of them.
An exceptional wine at this stage. An elegant nose with a hint of smoke and oak. On the palate, elegant and exquisite tannins. The purity and quality from the nose through the finish is long and I thought outstanding. This is a steak or sipping wine. I am biased though since this is one of if not my very favorite private reserve of the past twenty years along side the 01. As such, a nice smooth finish with a feel of velvet coating the palate perfectly balanced. Another review pointed out it tasted like a high quality Bordeaux and I agree with that assessment. I noted on the palate tastes of dense ripe black/blue fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, and a tinge of oak. Glad I have some 750's of this sitting around. One of Beringers great Private Reserves. Highly recommended

Brick colored & mild berry bouquet. Tasting notes of chocolate, blackberry, blueberry and black currant (cassis). Full body with long finish and a bit more tannin than I would expect for an 07 Napa. This could continue to age or open further with long decanting. A touch raspy and alcohol noticeable. However, great fruit & complexity.

I had big expectations for this wine, and it was definitely pleasant enough, but there wasn't a lot of structure to savor. It's on the lighter side, almost like an Alexander Valley cab.

Consistent notes from last tasting. The fruit is still not yet fully integrated and seems very youthful. Long decanting and room temperature was helpful. Score [ 50 + 5 + 13 + 17 + 9] = 94.

Definitely need to leave my last bottle alone for a few more years. The last bottle I had was incredible, this one was good but felt bigger, tannic, drying. But the fruit is there and will be back to incredible in a few years.

You will do yourself a disserves if you PNP this wine at this point. It really smoothed out after 2 hours in the decanter. It is a tongue coating big red wine with a lengthy silky finish. Dark fruit and cedar on the nose. Wonderful dark brooding fruit (cassis), cedar, loam, hints of tobacco and chocolate on the palate. Medium tannins were initially harsh when the bottle was opened, but became integrate with 2 hours in the decanter.

Beautiful wine. Better than expected, this really hit me right. So elegant, soft supple and sweet tannins. The purity and quality is there. Velvety smooth on the palate, perfectly balanced with notes of ripe fruit, red licorice, vanilla and oak. Came across as a high class Bordeaux. That said, drinks pretty nicely right now - very enjoyable bottle, but no rush to drink either. Would like to get a few more of these.

Beautiful. Perfectly round and balanced. Classic Napa cab character. Showing great right now- will be interesting to see if this keeps developing over the next decade. From a 375.

Earth was dominant on the nose straight out of the (venturi poured) bottle, and at 55 degrees was somewhat muted. At that temperature, the left bank style that Meteor references showed up more prominently than it did as the wine opened and warmed. As it warmed, the nose transitioned to black fruit and mocha with a bi-polar intensity; again, left bank and Napa all at once in one glass. At this point in time (April 2014) I find the finish to be too thin - mostly because the Napa fruit is still overtaking the Bourdeaux style and it doesn't fulfill on the nose's promise. I think this will change over time and evolve into a wine with tremendous depth and appeal. While it is not in the traditional Napa cult style, and perhaps not similar to more recent, traditional Private Reserves, I find it interesting and compelling to see how it evolves over time, even if not in the mainstream Napa style. This is still way, way youthful. If you have a few it is worth a check-in now. If not, stow it away and forget it for a while. Can't go wrong either way. Score [ 50 + 5 + 13 + 17 + 9 = 94 ]

Blue and black fruit. Smooth, minerality, touch of tobacco. Depth. Had against the 2001. Amazing to go back and forth - both brilliant - 07 was more brash and the 01 was more mature. Still felt like they were of the same descent.

Dark fruit and barnyard aromas. Smooth initial taste with no heat due to acidic imbalance. Nice transition. Dark fruit flavor but not jammy. Just a little heat on the back end. Long finish.

Popped and poured from split. This is a dark, constant purple colored wine. On the nose, there is currant, mint, wood, and wood-influenced odors (e.g., vanilla, chocolate, etc.). In the mouth, this is smooth, fruity, and a reasonably well structured wine, one that leaves a lingering finish. Overall, this is a nicely made and enjoyable Cab, albeit one that does little to exceed expectations. 93 points.

Brilliant... but barely in the window. The higher ratings on CT are for the potential : ) . Splits the difference between Napa and Left Bank Bordeaux . Dark red and blue fruit, herbal undertone, layered complexity of mineral and napa dust, long finish... glad to have 3 more as I PATIENTLY wait for this to finish coming together. Wonderful now, but will reward down the road.

Popped and V'd. Nice nose from the pour, but took a while on the palate. Really nice after about 3 hours, slowly consumed with others over that time frame. By the end of the bottle a transformation. Needs either big decant time or layed down for a while.

Superb. Somewhat tight (but nevertheless rewarding) when first opened, this little gem shimmered as the evening progressed. Reminiscent of a fine Bordeaux blend, it is one of those wines which paradoxically reveal restraint and power. Balanced, philosophical, lovely licorice notes swimming in leather and spice. This is my kind of Cab. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Another great bottle of this wine. Popped and poured after drinking 08 Caymus, 08 hall, and 07 Artemis. This blew them all out of the water. Soft on the palate at first and grows into a big cab through the finish. Great structure, soft tannins, and great flavor. Well made stuff.

Part of a 4 year vertical tasting of 2004 - 2007. This was the favorite for the group. We were surprised how little Cab Franc was in each of the wines. Each year included no more than 3 - 5%. The group liked that the wines were not overly Napa in style. The nose of the 2007 especially was Bordeaux like with graphite and earth. The wine was balanced and had a long finish. This wine has nothing but time. We all agreed to repeat the tasting in 5 - 10 years.

A very solid 90 point wine. Parker gives it 97 points and that too generous in my opinion, but I do like it. Enough oak, blackberries dense, with an earthy core of soil, sage, funk (not bad funk), dark chocolate, tobacco medium to bodied cabernet, its worth a shot.

Unchanged. Solid cab. Beat an 07 Pahlmeyer Cab rather easily in a head to head - fruit is quite a bit more expressive, spice, integration is much better (after a 2 hour decant). On the flip side, the Pahlmeyer was showing everything it had after 30 minutes of decanting. Even after 2 hours the fruit was not as bold, not as spicy, not as expressive. Seemed much simpler compared to the Beringer PR that was a MONSTER and still not even close to maturity. Kudos Beringer. Glad I have 19 more of these.

Opened by accident when reaching for a Bancroft merlot. I'm an Idiot... Decanted and nursed over 5 hours. Tannins really softened after 2.5-3 hours. Dark, sweet fruit and cinnamon red hots. The tannin really over ran the finish the first couple of hours, so I'd give this a few more years. Full bodied, tasty, but I need more length and/or more complexity to score it higher. Bit unfair, I killed this too young...I'm an Idiot.

Decanted one hour, drunk over next three. Wonderful nose of dark fruits, cherry, leather, spice. Full palate with blackberry, plum, a bit of wood, some mocha. Finishes on a dark fruit note with great length. Excellent balance, and not at all over the top. Killed it with a grilled steak. I normally drink France and Italy, but if more California wines tasted like this I would be a convert. Many years left.

I recently had the 2005 of this wine, which was pretty much shut down. But the 2007 was surprisingly open and drinking well with rich (but restrained) fruit and fine-grained tannins. Overall this wine was very well balanced in terms of its fruit and oak. Would definitely buy again.

Restaurant pop and pour, consumed half over two hours. Took the remainder home. Opened nicely and continued to improve. Finely knit, classic cab flavors with some elegance and subtlety. Incredibly well balanced. Oak is there but barely discernible. Really well made. Lovely now and will only get better.

Popped, poured and consumed over the course of 2 hours. An expressive (but primary) bouquet, offering up scents of cassis, blackberry; hints of spice and flower emerge with air. Medium bodied, with ripe (but still firm) tannins, impressive structure, and a long finish. For my tastes, this is acking just a bit in terms of texture and complexity.

Excellent Cab - still very very young. Perhaps a bit more integrated than the last one I opened, but not much. This is starting to turn darker, with licorice notes and you can tell the black pepper and alcoholic finish is developing with that nice mountain fruit front and SOLID backbone. I really shouldn't open another one of these until 2020, but I know I won't be able to resist the urge to do so.

I got to try some at the Beringer tasting room about 5 months ago. It was tasting good but a bit disjointed but I could tell it had the goods. Tonight, at a party, I got to try some more. And, WOW. Dense and rich and packed with flavor. This is only going to get better over the next few years. I'd probably hold off for another 16-24 months.

WOW - this wine is a 94 right now, and still a BABY!! This wine was enjoyed tonight in the comfort of friends and brought out of the cellar. Thankfully I have 21 more of these. This wine is already better than about 50% of the Napa cab varietals on the floor. This wine is primarily mountain fruit, and you can tell it. Deep, rich, complex, nose of blackberry, cassis, plum. The wine initially had a little floral hint. Wine was opened for about an hour and then decanted through a vinturi into glasses and was allowed to sit for another 30 minutes. The stain on this cork is really, really light. The initial on the tongue is deep, dark, glycerine, thick, with spice from an 07 that will blow your mind on the finish. This wine will stand the test of time quite easily. It will last through 2025 at a minimum, likely 2030. Insanely well made wine. I look forward to consuming the other bottles of this vintage, and the ratings will only go up from here I'm sure. EXCELLENT.

WLTV Napa Cabs (valley) (Eastside Wine Storage): this bottle was decanted at 6 pm, tasted around 7 pm nose: more metal and earth than the wines tasted alongside, not super forward, though there was oak presence palate: seemed tight, though I liked the flavor of the fruit. Longest finish of the wines at the table. Classy, and complex, though not offering 'wow' factor (yet).

Nice Cali red. Dusty dark purple. Blueberry, cassis all in your face. This is just at the edge of glass staining. Such a nice mouthfeel, not too light, thick, glyceriney, just right. Like the Little Bear said. Some touch chocolaty tannins that are actually choco dipped blueberries. Loads of spice just underneath, earth, spice. schrooms, etc all hiding there, waiting for some time to evolve. Lingers a bit lightly, not a big monster, sophisticated (more like Sophia Loren than Marilyn) , and standing up to my pork stew w chillis. This off a P&P, and it is seamless, w/o mistakes, perfection in a way, but almost calculated? Time will tell. This is so dangerously easy to drink.

Beringer high-end cabs: (at the winery) '05, '06, '07 vertical. Deep dark cherries, chocolate and toasty oak with some addition of blue fruit (both on the nose and palate). Extremely rich and jammy. Very good but over the top for my taste 91+. I cannot believe that these cost $100/btl, perhaps they improve dramatically with age...

Tried at tasting. Don't know what to make of this one. It was not overly tannic, but the fruit seemed a bit muted. Everything else was in place, but it just didn't wow me. Perhaps it isn't ready yet, but I am not taking the chance at this price point.

Decanted three hours. Very dark red. Tight even after the three hours, but opened up over the next four hours. Low fruit initially, fruity emerged with time. Nice nose, strong chocolate and dark berry notes on the palate, long and clean finish. A very nicely balanced Cab and one that would seem to have a good long life ahead of it. Complemented steak very well, and also was pleasant later in the evening. Can be drunk now with a long decant.

Strong vanilla on pop & pour but there is underlying fruit and chocolate albeit quite soft. Very tasty, I have heard so many people use vanilla as a descriptor but I have never picked it up myself, if I notice it I gotta believe it is going to be off putting to many. I presume it will integrate as this is incredibly young & confused but very good. Not a lot of tannins at the moment

14.6% ABV. Slightly translucent dark garnet in the glass. Some combination of youth and palate fatigue left me without a clear picture of this wine, except to say I think the raw materials are there and it just needs a little time to come together. Reticent black currant and cedar nose. Medium bodied with evidence of black currant fruit, but overall closed for business. Hope to re-taste this evening.

My first bigger 07 Cali Cab and I find this a bit disappointing.

This only gets 5 stars because there aren't 6! An extraordinary bouquet. This is one of the softest wines I have ever tasted. Liquid velvet. Raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and pepper. A nice spicy finish. This is a helluva glass of wine and was worth the 8 year wait to open it!

93 points.

Unchanged.

EXCELLENT.

Black fruit, fine tobacco, spice, hint of black pepper smokey oak, good length on the finish. Smooth supple tannins.

Saturdays at One - Volume 52: WIML90+/-
Tasted non blind at a retail tasting.
Purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of thistle, talc, black berries, soapstone and plums. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and a bit of plum. Medium acidity, firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink now with some air or continue to hold.

A very short decant and just a little unimpressive. Drinking fine, just OK.

Saturday Tasting Group (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (Northbrook, IL)): Really surprised with this one when the wine was revealed. This was super culty. Beautiful floral with savory aromatics.
Stewed strawberries and cream. Funky and unique. Stunning nose.
Has everything going on. Truffle, chocolate, oak, vanilla, purple flowers. Complete and rich. Just pure delicious.

Very good, dark fruit, chocolate, powerful. Decanter for 2-3 hours beforehand which helped. Not too hot, and had a great smoothness for such a big wine. Should age really well.

big brooding sweet dark currant, blackberry, plum, vanilla, mocha; the fruit overwhelms the tannin and oak at this point
