90 Points

Saturday, November 29, 2014 - Day after BBQ (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand): Rather Napa cult wine in style. High alcohol, ripe and opulent fruit - very high toned with noticeable VA. In the mouth, quite developed and very tannic. Distinct green bell pepper notes intermingle with the high toned and ripe fruit quality. It is in no way drying out but it seems clear to me that the fruit will not outlast the tannins. Powerful and concentrated, this is outstanding but is not at all in the class of the Harlan 1997, drunk the night before. The Harlan was by far the more refined, plush, complicated and less evolved wine. Excellent and very new world but not a world beater, by any stretch of the imagination.
