80 Points

Tuesday, January 4, 2005 - A blend of 73% Sémillon and 27% Sauvignon Blanc. On the lighter side of gold-colored. The nose is strong on the burnt rubber, of all things. (Perhaps the wine’s corked, but I don’t think so.) It smells like a combination of wet yarn and dirt. That’s not as awful as it sounds, I suppose, but pretty close. The texture is viscous, even oily or waxy, and there’s some nice, spicy oak on the palate. The finish tastes minerally, which gives it some character. The bottom line, though, is that the burnt rubber largely ruins the experience; it wouldn’t be so bad otherwise because this seems like an out-of-the-ordinary, change-of-pace type of wine. ($22)
