Saturday, December 11, 2010 - About 2-3 years ago this wine went through a shitty period, I thought that it was just showing too much brett derived merde but I now think it may have been shitty because it was being opened during a transition period between primary fruit and the early stages of bottle development. Last night’s bottle was very good. It still has some camphor notes that I assume are brett related but there’s also some enticing smells of pine needle sap, freshly tilled earth, Indian spices (think cardamom and paprika) and a whiff of what I can only describe as a decaying tree branch covered in moss. In the mouth the savoury elements are beautifully countered by crunchy red fruits and it has a nice vinous feel with silky texture. It finishes with excellent cut.
