Roumier Chambolle Musigny 2001. Darker in color nose: is dark cherry, Asian market spice , bit of licorice , palate is fruitful, still tannins linger and medium strength. Good acidity. Starts silky , oak well integrated , but tiniest bit of bitterness on finish. Medium length and body. Overall very enjoyable!

1st wine in 2wks. Sous Bois, autumn leaves, Chinese tea intermixed with orange peel, sweet red fruits, floral and umami. Very fresh entry, tannin has mostly fully resolved, resulted in a very saturated yet pretty weightless mouthfeel, very persistent with medium length. The completeness here is impressive. This has nice power and depth, and slowing growing. I especially like the acidity (showing after 30mins or so in the glass) and salinity. Will hold for many years but I like this stage, just entering secondary with some nice mellow primary fruits. Elegant and engaging.

Another lost Friday afternoon gathering – 96 Dom, 08 Cristal and a Rudy blend (Blacksalt, Washington DC): The lightest of the flight. Youthful medium expressive nose displaying subtle red fruit, raspberry jam, slightly dry cherry, sesame/toasted oak, sweet spices and earth. Perfectly mature palate, a bit straightforward red fruit, warm and round, bright acidity, good earthy mineral, still noticeable slightly coarse tannins and a medium to long subtle red fruit driven finish. Drinking nicely.

beautiful wine, but needing time and proper food. I looked at my last note and now think this wine is just starting to enter its peak. Very tight initially and needing a few hours to express itself, it was fun to try it with a '62 Volnay and a restrained Cali pinot. with air, more classic Chambolle comes through - a beautiful wine, just needs time and understanding

This is showing beautifully right now. It still retains a core of deep, red fruit, but has also developed a complex mix of earth, spice, floral and fresh herb elements. The acidity is vibrant, and the overall impression is lively, persistent and elegant.

Limpid crimson. Wonderful strawberry and compote nose, a touch of florality too. Fresh acidity, lifted with good grip. Srawberry and brambles, sweet spice and a woody nuance. Very good balance, quite intense and good length. A very good village wine.

Not quite as expressive initially as another bottle was a few months ago, but with air it really opens out to show floral and savoury earthy elements framing a core of pure red berried fruit. Very polished, impeccably balanced and wonderful to drink with some air.

I'm liking this even better than a very good bottle a couple months ago. Floral, pretty, sweet black cherry fruit with accents of sandalwood, spice, and earth. Lovely balance, great texture, drinking very well. A-

Leo's Blind Tasting Club (Oct 2011): Lovely nose, with power and dark, brooding fruit, and Burgundian earth. Tasted double blind, the power made me guess this was a Gevrey. Was glad to hear the reveal as this is a wine I buy in whatever vintages I can. This continued to evolve aromatically throughout the evening, and grew smoother on the palate. By the end of the night, this was perfectly silken and right in the wheelhouse for prime drinking, and still surprisingly powerful for a Chambolle. Glorious, especially for a village burg, and my WOTN. 93

Very nice aromatics, on the palate it was maybe a bit thin (one called dilute) at first. But it picked up weight with air- still a delicate Chambolle, but fruit is pretty and complex- black cherry with citrus rind and floral/fruit blossom notes. Drinking nicely. B+/A-

Incredibly fragrant, conveying pretty red and dark fruited flavours accented by floral and spicy notes and a texture that's pure silk. The tannins are barely noticeable, and this just glides across the tongue with a remarkable lightness and sense of polish.

Beautiful, elegant wine that proves why burgundy complements food so well - floral, rose petals, berries, bramble, light but lifted by an acidic backbone

Excellent village level wine. Cherry, floral fragrance, some damp forest. On palate, rather round, smooth-textured, expansive. Dark cherry and earth, mushroom, some precision on the finish.

About 2-3 years ago this wine went through a shitty period, I thought that it was just showing too much brett derived merde but I now think it may have been shitty because it was being opened during a transition period between primary fruit and the early stages of bottle development. Last night’s bottle was very good. It still has some camphor notes that I assume are brett related but there’s also some enticing smells of pine needle sap, freshly tilled earth, Indian spices (think cardamom and paprika) and a whiff of what I can only describe as a decaying tree branch covered in moss. In the mouth the savoury elements are beautifully countered by crunchy red fruits and it has a nice vinous feel with silky texture. It finishes with excellent cut.

I debated on whether to open and drink this or wait and let it rest a while longer. Since I had a few of these I decided to give it a spin! I think this wine is "just beginning" to hit it's drinking window and I believe has a long life ahead of it. This is a well made wine however I would best classify it as simpler and with less finesse as some of it's better pedigreed siblings.
Nice nose of wet earth and primarily red fruit, after a decant and some air this wine began to open up with enjoyable aromatics a decent mouthfeel and what I would describe as it's sweet spot was in the mid palate as the finish was rather short but none the less enjoyable. With more age this wine is likely to gain some points and given where the price of Burgundy has gone, this was a decent QPR at the time of purchase.

This is still showing young, but oh so tasty. Black cherries and raspberries, red plums, earth, and sandalwood. Texture is smooth and supple, but there is both acidic and tannic structure there. I think this is just outstanding for village level wine. With time some leather and a little grenadine-ish note. A-

The funk elements are becoming more evident on the nose with smoked meat and game wafts intermingling with red fruits and violets. It is snappy in the mouth with a heart of liqueur cherry. There is enough acid here to make Jerry Garcia smile and it finishes with plenty of chestnut and an almost audible crunch.

Deep, saturated red fruits shading to black, on the meaty side of the floral/meaty continuum. A little brett and lots of tannin. I think this needs a lot of time.

We opened this wine directly from the cellar at 60 degrees. I decanted it and served it immediately. The nose was fantastic! lots of elegance and charm. Aged beef with cherry fruit and full of character and complexity. The taste was silky with lovely muted flavors-medium bodied with lots of finness . The finish was a little dried out, but not unpleasant. A superb wine which is ready to drink.

Ruby with some amber at the rim. Nose had red fruits, grilled herbs and some animale funk. Drinking well right now... tannin and acidity subdued. Despite this, I think it would benefit from some additional age (2-3 years).

Morels and Burgundy (Chicago): Red and black cherries on the nose. Not much complexity, but the fruit character is very pure and just exactly perfect. Velvety with great concentration of fruit, but still nice and bright. Lengthy finish of fresh red fruits. Primary, but lovely. WOTN #2

Unfortunately corked. Plastic bag removed most of the TCA and the wine was ultimately drinkable and even very good. But I don't think one should not rate or describe this particular bottle. Nevertheless, I believe it is a fantastic village wine and I can understand why Roumier is considered to produce the reference wine of this appellation. Drink 2005-2012

Day 1: Rich, deep nose of briary black fruit with a huge component of wet earth, almost more like a Nuits than a Chambolle. Dark inky color in the center but beautiful silky maroon around the edges. Fleshy and substantial in the mouth, with firm tannins on the finish, with hints of sweeter complexity to come. Day 2: A layer of black fruit seemed to have peeled away overnight to reveal some sappier red fruit. Somehow sweeter and broader, and lingers in the mouth. This is outstanding village level Chambolle - a solid 88-89 pts. now, possibly approaching 90 pts. with a little age on it. Highly recommended.
