Purchased from winery on release. This was in great shape. Light butterscotch, mineral, white peach, no oxidation, cork in fine condition, built to last. More nuances as it warmed up with dinner. Paired well with butter-poached halibut.

Medium hazy yellow; neutral nose, light flinty; gentle full-bodied with well-balanced acidity, long aftertaste, perhaps a bit on the flat side, but otherwise very good

Deep color, looks oxidized. Not much in the bouquet initially, but begins to show some butterscotch aromas. Better on the palate though, with apple and subtle butterscotch flavors. Not oxidized, but quite mature. It feels like half or more of the Kistlers we've opened show more advanced than they should, but man when you get a good bottle it's really good.

I think that there is some bottle variation here. Last week I had the luck to try this wine, and two weeks in a row I had the chance to try this wine again. This bottle was not as 'elegant' as the last bottle. There was less fruit, less acidity, less oak......compared to a Kistler Chard Dutton of the same year, this one lost the battle IMO, although I think it was a 50/50 split for those who tried it. I think that I was expecting this one to be as roundedd as the bottle that we tried last week, and this one simply didn't hoild up the same way. Good notes, definitely more of a pineapple but really without that citrus bite. Overripe honeydew and mango are more the note here. Not as much minerality, not as 'dried' on the finish. Nice wine....wouldn't kick it out of bed for sure. But if you have some of these, it's time to start poppin' some corks!

Better than the Vine Hill from the same year for sure. More glycerin, what are the news in pallet of Peach and ripe mango. This one definitely did have some butter, not overdone IMO. Very balanced Chardonnay that is kicking some tail right now.

Brought to a Christmas Eve party, a big hit. Golden in color. Aromatics of tropical fruit and note of vanilla. Richness in color and on the nose was confirmed on the palate. Impeccable balance across the palate leading to a long and consistent finish. A “ wow” wine among the guests.

Zinfandels Ten or Older (Gen Hoe, Geneva): Nonblind with dinner, paired with the Triple Happiness. Why can't they all be like this? Lemon and citrus notes with underlying apple and toast qualities. Bright- none of the overly nutty/oxidative tones these can have as they age. A nice kiss of oak on the palate along with the orchard fruit and lemon notes. Long, balanced finish. Absolutely gorgeous.

9 years in and in the perfect spot for my palate. Not over complex but some decent nuance with bright yellow fruit, lemon, a little spice. This is quite nice. The wood has receded and is now integrated into an wine that shows good balance between fruit, wood, acid and tannin.

Advanced, but not undrinkably so. Sautéed apple and buttered popcorn notes with acetone undertones. Orchard fruit on the palate, with a heavy nutty quality.

Muted and strange to start with, needed 24 hours in decanter to normalise and open up. Fairly dark yellow, a bit cloudy. Nice, restrained nose of peach, pineapple, rubber and salmiak. Lean attack, with some sweetness shining through, but this has really shed all its babyfat, and is now in a mature phase. Somehow, I think I like them younger.

PnP from 750ml, served solo. Really lovely showing today. I'm concluding that the Kistler single vyd Chards are best either upon release, or laid down for at least this long. This was very light straw yellow and a bit cloudy, as you've come to expect from no filtration. Wonderful, playful nose of lemon zest and stone. The oak has really integrated, so the mouth is still lush, but more subtle with just a tinge of honeysuckle sweetness.

Had a bottle of this 2008 last year, and my notes are very consistent. Deep gold in color, nose of tropical fruit, medium to heavy bodied, oaky caramel & pineapple, long finish. Not a particularly elegant wine, but has many enjoyable elements.

I've only had Kistler chards a handful of times. Attending their wine dinner next week, I thought I would get a head start! 2008 here - I just can't decide if you're supposed to drink these as young as possible, or really let them age? Very pale straw color, clearly unfiltered. Very subtle nose of sweet, yellow fruit (almost muted). Lovely balance on the attack, but it quickly gets awkward/funky mid-palate. I thought it might just be me, so I tried it again Night Two - less funky, but still present. Amazing how mixed one's experience can be, all within the same taste! Simply bottle variation?

Drank with Gisondis at Gus last nite. Generous nose of tropical fruit, honey and some spice. Big on the palate--in fact much heavier, more viscous than I expected. Lots of sweet, tart pineapple up front, along with some pear & some toast. Fairly long though not particularly complex or well structured. Not really what I expected from this bottle in that it had somewhat of a sledgehammer quality to it, but still enjoyable with our lobsters.

4th Saturday group "uptown" tasting (Our house): Notes of lemon curd, apple and mineral. Banana, coconut, vanilla and toast on the palate with lemon/citrus tones on the long finish. One taster suggested Corton Charlemagne before settling on a Peter Michael Chardonnay. Drinking very well, albeit young. 93-94 pts.

I have 2 observations about Kistler chardonnays. First, they need 5+ years to resolve the acidity and really open up. Second, if you have Riedel glasses, they should be drunk using either a Montrachet glass or a Riedel Vinum pinot noir glass. Either showcases the Burgundian aspects of the wine, while minimizing the acidity that a Riedel chardonnay glass may accentuate.
The 2008 Kistler Kistler Vyd. is a wonderful wine. Some brûlée notes, but blended with some Burgundian influences to produce a nicely rounded, utterly delightful expression of chardonnay at its best. Well done, Mark Bixler!

CT Wisconsin Offline 2; 10/5/2012-10/6/2012 (Madison, WI): Perfect, regal golden-yellow color. An appealing tropical and oxidized quality on the nose, beautiful palate, clean but simple through the short, warm finish. Borderline alcohol throughout, but a bit of depth helps the balance. Tasted blind. Group #7 of 8. My #2 of 8.

Light gold to medium in color with a pretty scent. I drank with friends rather quickly but I recall thinking that it was nearly perfect though needing a little less oak and a little more complexity. Medium to full in body and seriously tasty.

Pale straw in color, this had some pure lemongrass notes with a tinge of honey. A beautiful fragrant fruit filled medley that always stayed precise and focused. Some minerality but the purity was really in charge here. After a moment of what I thought was some back-end funk blew off, this just had perfect balance and floated across the palate ever so gracefully.. A fantastic way to start the evening.

Wells Vacation Dinner (Wells, ME): This wine had everything we look for in a Chardonnay - ripe (but not overripe) California fruit with an Old World precision and grace. Pinot and Chardonnay gathering at Harth Restaurant - Clos de Tart, Vogue BM and Chave (Harth Restaurant at Hilton Tysons corner, Mclean, Va): This is a classic Kistler also a big scale wine. Mostly yellow fruits, hard to pinpoint specific fruits other than lemon, toasted oak/sesame, limestone, butter popcorn and light caramel. The fruit expression is ripe and warm, noticeable acidity and a hint of mineral expression. I also noticed a hint of sugar and heat.
