  • Festival of Alex - Grand Birthday Dinner: Pineapple, lime, orange, mandarin, lemon and grapefruit on the nose. The palate has a real sense of delicacy and poise. Tangy acidity lifts the wine up with the sweetness siting in the background. Very good length, this is still very primary. I thought I'd be blown away by this, it didn't get there but was still excellent - perhaps more time will give it that extra interest to take it to the next level.

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, it is medium gold color, with watery rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with pronounced intensity aromas of citrus fruit of lime and orange, stone fruit of apricot and peach, tropical fruit of pineapple, maturity notes of honey, floral notes of honeysuckle, mineral notes of stone. The wine is developing.
Palate: Sweet with high acidity, the wine has low alcohol, medium (-) body and pronounced intensity flavors of citrus fruit of lemon, stone fruit of apricot, tropical fruit of pineapple, maturity notes of honey, floral notes of honeysuckle, mineral notes of stone. The wine has a long finish.
Conclusion: Exceptional quality German Riesling eiswein, with phenomenal intense aromas of good concentration, the wine is simply out of this world on the palate, with the balance of acidity of sweetness so well-structured that you would feel everything is so harmonized. The flavors are concentrated, with also a very long finish. One of the best sweet wines I have ever tasted, it is ready to drink now though can further develop for another 15-20 years.

  • Nose seemed faint and oxidised, with notes of lemon, pineapple, and blue cheese (gorgonzola piccante). There is no oxidation evident on the palate, which has a fantastically powerful lemon cordial flavour, with notes of thyme, blue cheese, and jasmine. Outrageously powerful sweetness, perfectly balanced by equally-powerful acidity.

  • Pale green gold. Intense nose of fresh limes, white peach and touches of cumquat. Palate intense and linear without the complexity of a good year Auslese or higher. Great length and balance with plenty of grip. This was in ' Lang Goldkapsel ' format.

  • Fantastic half bottle after a great VVF and Salon vertical tasting with a lemon tart. Fesh, not sticky with a great length, drinkable at least for more than 3 decades, some petrol in the nose

  • Nose of sweet apples. Fresh, clean palate with very little in the way of a sugary note. Bright and balanced. A touch of a effervescent quality. Really terrific and easily one of the best wines on the night for me. Seems to be in a great place now where as the Auslesen seemed to want for more time. Terrific.

  • 10 year retrospective tasting at Conrad's (Conrad Green): Clean, focused, pure lemon tart and concentrated apple puree; excellent acidity and clean sweetness; intense, and a huge long long finish. Very cool.

  • Pop and pour (what a mistake!). From half-bottle. Golden colour. The nose is very typical of Pruem -- feels very sulfured. This will take about a week of slow-ox in the fridge to dissipate. Quite closed right now. Nose is not very forthright, though there are some faint hints of grapefruit. On the palate, this is an intense, powerful wine, though very light on its feet. Unctuous, especially for a German riesling. Not a texture you associate with the Mosel. But razor-sharp acidity to cut through the sugar. Incredibly long green-apple inflected finish. You can taste the wine a few minutes after your last sip. To be revisited in a few days' time. Initial score: 93. It has been around two weeks since my last note. This wine is still going strong. A note of sulfur still persists, but some white peach aromas have developed, alongside some citrus peel notes. On the palate, this shows no sign of decay at all -- a testament to the power of Pruem's wines. Sharp as barbed wire, there's unbelievable acidity in this wine. You can taste the green apples for minutes. A lot of the creaminess from the initial pop and pour has vanished, though perhaps that is an artifact of the tasting condition and not of the wine itself. Stony minerality. Flavours of tart peaches. Long. Score upgraded to 95. A long, long slow-oxidation (on the order of two weeks) is a must, even for a half-bottle.

  • Superb Tasting Menu with Three Spectacular Wines (Sons and Daughters, San Francisco): Half bottle. Medium yellow. Peaches and vanilla cream. No oxidation or mature Riesling notes. Moderately sweet but not at BA level. Great purity of stone fruit and a beacon of acidity. Perfect lingering weight without any heaviness due to the extraordinary acidity. Like the Clos Ste. Hune to start the meal, crystalline in its focus and drive. All I can say is "wow"! I'd never had an Eiswein from Prum before. This capped a great meal with great bottles.
