Clear, dark red colour. Nose of white pepper, black cherry and tar. Dark fruits on the palette along with black olives and asphalt. Still fresh and balanced with a long finish. Drinking very nicely.

Started drinking after 90 mins in the decanter. Ruby red, light bricking at the hue. Not overly fragrant for me, bramble and secondary mineral notes. This is starting to integrate, tannins still a little drying but this is a good 9 year shiraz with a solid medium finish. Needs longer in the decanter, feel I didn't do the wine the justice it deserves but a re-check on the final glass left in the decanter after 9 hours suggests slightly oxidised. Drink over the next 3 years

Bright red colour. A touch of toast on the nose along with dark fruit. Rounded mouthfeel - a touch of menthol. Dark fruit flavours with a long finish. Drinking very well but with a lot of life left.

Hazy notes from last night. This was an impressive wine. A lovely nose, with some game and red fruit, and similar more complex flavours on the medium to full bodied palate. Still lots of time left for this wine, but it was excellent with even a short decant (a longer decant is recommended if you open it soon). A nice blend of a new and old world style (A-).

My first and only one of these. Seemed like a predominance of oak, which overshadowed everything. Didn't seem like a lot of fruit present (left...given other comments)

- Crimsom color with slow forming legs and aromas of blackberry and butterscotch. It's balanced and has flavours of black currant and violet with a full body. Satin-Like texture with a long finish - Enjoyed on my girlfriends birthday at phillip m's!

-- decanted immediately before tasting -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 days --
NOSE: initially, very tight, showing hints of raspberry liqueur, black cherry and leather; new magazine; patchouli incense; tight complexity; starts opening some after 4 hours. Day 2: Indian spice; moderately expressive (has opened since Day 1); a little sweet oakiness; glossy red fruits.
BODY: black-garnet color of medium-deep depth; clear; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: lots of tartness and oak; tannins are surprisingly polished; “big,” but elegant; strikes me as a hypothetical red-fruited Cote Rotie; little bit of heat in the belly (14.5%); oak comes through on the finish, but not so much before that; not gloppy; on the acidic side of well-balanced between acid & tannin; a tad sweet-tasting. Day 2: juicy; still oaky; tart; red fruits; spicy; too tart today & less complex than yesterday. This Syrah was somewhat confusing to me. I do think it will improve at least over the next couple years, as it seems it needs some time to flower, and I wouldn’t be surprised if 10 years does this wine well.

depth and dark with floral aromatics. some purple flower aromas. great acid with soft textured fruit. subtle new oak sweet. a whisper of SA roast towards the finish. they are really starting to reap the rewards of replanting in the mid 90s.

Quality through and through, from the first sip to the last drop. Even at such a young age this is restrained, compact and oozing quality. No heat, no excess, just pure fruit and structure - Boekenhoutskloof must be the best estate in south africa right now across the board and this wine is the pinnacle. Stunningly good fruit with delicate pepper and Northern Rhone notes that tickle the palate but without any excess - compact, restrained, elegant - violets and roses, very floral but with taught potential - brilliant now but what a wine this will be in 10 years. There is no harm drinking now (just decant it) but some time in the cellar will step this up another level. Brilliantly brilliant. Dont expect a fruit bomb, just well judged wine making.

A rather flat example of a usually delicious and bold wine. Probably flawed.

Boekenhoutskloof Winemakers dinner. (@ Bottles; Sas van Gent, Netherlands): Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits. Same on the palate. Soft acidity, bitterness and tannin. Beautiful and harmonious wine. Already a pleasure to drink and definitely during the next 6+ years.

More lift than expected, tastes more SA than Syrah, but the Syrah handles SA beautifully. Works at $50.
