  • Thick mouthfeel. Somewhat buttery oak on the palate. Spicy long finish. I enjoyed this.

  • Annual CdP Dinner (Edina Country Club, MN): -- popped and poured --
    -- tasted a couple pours non-blind over approx. 45 min. --

NOSE: strong musty note --- like a damp canvas tent; faint tropical fruits; minty banana; with time in the glass, the musty note weakened (but never disappeared), and the fruits became more like caramel popcorn; expressive, engaging, but a bit odd.

BODY: golden yellow color of medium depth; medium to medium-full bodied.

TASTE: oaky; rich; plush; smoky; lots of mineral and lanolin; 14.5% alc. not noticeable; slightly oily; pretty rich; good today, but likely better further down the line --- I’d be inclined to give it at least 10 years.

  • Annual Holiday CDP Tasting (Edina, MN): Medium gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30+ minutes. 100% Marsanne. Very woody on initial presentation, showing a curious burnt oak/wood note that was not particularly enjoyable. This took a lot of swirling and about 15 minutes in, it began to evolve and show its true colors. After 30 minutes in glass this became equally impressive on the nose as in the glass. Nose ultimately becomes big and full with butterscotch, toasted oak, honeysuckle, toast, caramel corn. The palate is quite similar to the nose with caramel, butterscotch, honey roasted nuts, a bit of burnt rubber. This is rich, viscous and full bodied with a long finish. This big wine is intriguing and delicious and should benefit from some further bottle age. Currently a short decant or aeration is advised. 93+ currently and potential to improve several points. My and group #3 WOTN.

  • Annual CDP Tasting (Edina Country Club): Hard to believe a starter wine is wine of the night and this is the first time I remember this happening. Others thought it was corked but I indicated that it blew off on the preview. Lemon, shells, apple, orange peel and wood. This wine just kept getting better with an increase in temp. Nose was not great up front but got significantly better. Super complex wine and a rockstar effort. 94-96.
