great aromatics tropical yes but also some talc and minerality it has a faint golden hue I felt the palate was way less interesting and was worried my tongue was off but wife confirmed it was a bit so so what does that mean? A grape like this should age further but i wonder if this is done? I am checking on evolution as the remainder sits in the frige

Celebrating Doug's Birthday...; 11/8/2015-11/9/2015: Color: Golden Yellow Smell: sugar-crusted brown-butter christmas cookies was the dominant scent with a slight tropical fruit note in the back ground. Taste: Tropical fruits...kind of a one-note wine. Overall: This is fuller-bodied than the 2008 that we tasted side-by-side. This seems to be in a place where it would be best to drink it now. Very-good. Medium-full body, and low acidity creates a sensation that this is almost flabby with just-enough acidity to make this enjoyable...but for how long? Drink up. Very Good.

W pan seared cod with chives and sour cream sauce. Good wine and fit well with the dish. This is elegant and had tough time atanding up to the sauce. Good finish. In my experience dinot hold these rousannes long.

Excellent delicate white wine. James Berry complexity is finely balanced in this wine. Flavors are light but intense and elegant. Hints of lime and other citrus. should go very well with scallop. I totally enjoyed it.

Wonderful roasted hazelnut and tropical fruit nose. Oily palate that starts with rich lush tree fruit and oak then transitions to a mineral citric finish.

Pale yellow color but big body. Floral nose. Smooth mouthfeel on the attack coupled with tart green apple. Mid palate brings the petroleum / oily taste I typically associate with CA chard. Ends with the nice acidity reassearting itself. Did not overpower red snapper steamed with garlic, fennel, and thyme.

Opened yesterday, allowed to sit in bottle within the fridge overnight simply under cork. Retasted today. Solid acidity and the wine is in nice balance. Lime, nectarine and hint of apple. Pretty lean actually and gentle in tone.

This Roussanne (from Paso) was PnP and enjoyed over a few hours, it is 14.0% abv, and pale lemon in color. Wells Guthrie has a deft hand in his winemaking, and it again comes to light in this gorgeous offering. The exciting and fragrant nose has a floral component, perhaps honeysuckle, with apricot and pear white fruit made more interesting by a vaseline/chalk component in the upper register. This wine is a bit oily on the palate, coming across rich and lush, with some lemon, pear and peach fruit notes, and a nice sting of white pepper at the end of the medium length, mineral-infused finish. Lovely now, drink with food or alone, over the next 2-3 years. Very nice effort on this difficult-to-get-right-in-California varietal.

A very interesting offering from the James Berry Vineyard in Paso Robles. Medium yellow. An oily, waxy presentation with hazelnuts, limes, and soda. Full bodied and rich in an odd way because it is both rich and minerally. Long and complex doing well with time open and showing more chalk, mineral and soda over time.

The nose was full of tropical fruit, lemon, and stony mineral. Med-full bodied on the palate with a light, fresh citrus feel that transitions to an oily-textured, almond finish. I could use a little more acid, but there is length on the finish that leaves a nutty, mineral taste. Really nice.

Complex aromas of nuts, lemon, tropical fruit. Palate is a bit on the oily and heavy fruit texture side to have the finesse and elegance that I look for in white. That said, the fruit is complex and fresh the wine is very enjoyable, but was better before the food arrived. The '93 Beau turned out to be a better 'white' wine at the table.

My favorite JBV Roussanne in some time, hazelnut, preserved lemon, waxy nectarine, caramel, green tea, and stone, long and balanced. Still compacted and likely to improve. Decanted 1 hour.

double decanted to bring to a dinner ... while decanting strong quince aroma, beautiful full color. 2 hours later, nice mineral notes to go with the waxy quince and tropical fruit. Much better showing for me that the previous bottle

The color is medium yellow with a greenish hue. Nose is lemon, tangerine, and a chalky minerality that is quite prominent. There is also a petroleum quality in the background. All these smells make for an interesting bouquet. On the palate, the wine is opulent, medium-full bodied, with that lemon flavor coming through strongly, followed by hazelnut and resin, and finally minerals/gravel. This wine has a firm acidic backbone, to support the complex flavor profile, and lend to the medium-length finish, giving it alot of spunk. This wine is drinking quite well right now, and should last another 1-2 years.

Double decanted and brought to a dinner. Nice nose of quince, and some floral. The palate had a very nice waxy feel, with more quince, mineral and a touch of lemon custard came to mind, but I think it was hoping for a bit bolder a wine.

Copain Dinner With Wells Guthrie and Jennifer Derrick In The OC (Marche Moderne, Costa Mesa CA): This is the last JB Roussanne that Wells will make, as the strategy for Copain was to move all fruit sourcing and to the Anderson Valley (aside from Brosseau, which is limestone and chalk soils). I preferred this to the 2006, which we tasted alongside this 2009. I found the 2009 lighter, more nuanced, zippier with fennel. Less waxy and less glycerine. Overall, to me just better for my palate.

A fun wine. You can tell this is a domestic effort. For people who like this style, the score can certainly go a few points above the 90 I gave it.
