Side by side with '07. This '09 immediately showed great color and brightness in all aspects with no signs of its nearly 15 years of age. Red berry freshness made this the initial favorite with just enough earthiness to ensure its Burgundy roots. Rounded out with some faint cinnamon and general Pinot spice. This held court through the first hour until the '07 started to wake up and show all of what makes a mature Grand Cru all the rage. The '09 remained steady, but did not quite get past where it started. I suspect this could easily go another 5 years, whereas the '07 is at peak.

This wine again shows that the 09s and 10s are clearly leading the pack in recent vintages. Ripe on the palate with darker fruited flavors. Medium-bodied and good depth.

Certainly likeable. Is that a good thing to say? This is sort of the Louie Anderson of GC wines I have had in awhile. It's big, it's a bit sweet, it's mostly playing it down the middle but it also has a little arsenal of dirty jokes to tell you that are pretty damn funny if not necessarily to everyone's taste. This is well made Echezeaux with all the bells, whistles and trappings of the 2009 vintage. If Jim Jeffries is more your speed this is going to come off as a little corny and simple but if Rita Rudner makes you double over this will provide an extra level of entertainment. Personally, I'm a Jeffries sort of guy.

Knightsbridge Holiday Burgundy Sale (Northbrook, IL): Bold red cherry aromas combine with moderate spice and interesting forest character. Big cherry flavors along with big tannins and intense minerality, essentially a big styled Echezeaux with lots of everything that should reward a decade+ in the cellar.
