A nose that reminded me a lot of a miso chocolate seaweed snack I had a few days ago. But still has fresh acidity and the tannins are still fairly uncompromising. As befits Gouges, 24 years is probably still too young.

Surpsingly youthful still, this deeply darker red NSG showed a strong center body and a full, mellifluoius finish thoughout the entire 90-minute consumtion of the bottle. Yielding only some of the foresty and more complex individual fruit notes that his older wines usually bring forth, this bottle was nonetheless excellent for its somewhat stern stature and deeper cherry and forest wood tones. At a fine restaurant and worth the cost.
Gouges is certainly one of the two masters of this under appreciated appellation, and when these are a good 15-20 years, they stand among the most enjoyable premiere crus.

11th of 12, pnp, drunk over 3 nights, perfect cork and level - similar to my 2014 notes, but less fresh and starting to feel a little tired, though curiously more attractive on second night. VG+ (16.5).

Light red with some brown. Bright cherry nose with some really nice funk in the background. Way more developed and interesting then my Pommard. Very nice earthy cherry flavours and a very fresh finish.
Lovely wine.

9th of 12, not decanted, perfect fill - fresher and more to it than May's bottle, nice chewy almost meaty fruit, just not the grip of a top vintage, though not concocted or over-chaptalized either. Very good indeed (17/20).

Slow-ox 3 hrs, tasted over 3 hrs -med ruby red with minimal browning -a little funk, earthy, meaty, savory, sour dark red fruits -med acidity, med- concentration, chalky tannins, earthy with a core of buried sweet dark cherry -a bit rustic, plenty of life left

Very good for a young Gouges. Almost seems ready. Iron-y, very NSG with its compact power and cool, hard angles. Tart red fruit, the structure is still here, but it's giving a bit. good wine.

A Gouges you can drink before its 30th birthday! And actually enjoy it! Black cherry fruit, earthy, meaty, iron, very nuits. Still plenty of tannic structure but the structure is relaxed and the tannin, while a bit drying, is neither bitter nor hard. Lacks a bit of intensity and cut perhaps (showing the vintage there), and not great length, but still quite tasty.

Drinking very well with a combination of pure red and dark fruits, earthiness and sous bois elements. Crisp acidity and a slightly rustic mouthfeel.

8th of 12 usually very good indeed, this one losing fruit and drive and diminishing, hopefully a one off. At best very good (16/20).

Loved this one! Kept on developing in the glass. Chewy but not too much.
