  • Happy father's day... Grilled rib eye and cabernet on the menu tonight. Deep dark youthful color and decent clarity. The nose is black fruit, tobacco and cocoa. Medium minus mouthfeel and flavors of blue black fruits, mocha, vanilla, mountain air, mineral, saline and bright lemony finish. Good complexity, but without the depth that I wanted. Decent finish and less than decent QPR.

All in all, the wine is good, but there are much better wines for the money.

  • This was poured last night and tonight from a magnum with one third left for tomorrow night, nose of Sumatra coffee, dry forest floor, blackberry, blueberry, and a touch of briar, more of the same on the palate, tasted better the second hour than the first both nights, big body, needs 4 years to peak and should merit several more points, mouth filling fruit, lovely and rich to savor with meaty pizza, long, long, long flavorful finish.

  • Initially popped and poured for a final glass of the evening after a very satisfying Lucia Syrah. We both thought it was horrible - very jammy almost sweet. Back in went the cork and we tried again the next night after giving some airtime in the glass. Much better, less jammy more balanced and pleasant to drink. Tried again on night 3 and it was even better. My advice on this one - give it lots of time to evolve in the decanter or the glass - really changed.

  • Decanted for about 3-4 hours prior to serving. Was tasted along side two other Napa cabs (2008 Revana & 2006 Etude Oakville) and this one suffered in comparison. There was a lot of barnyard funk on the nose, which did not really dissipate over the course of the evening. It tasted of mellow dark fruits, and had a pretty short finish. All tasters found this to be their least favorite of the three wines.

  • Nose is vibrant blue & black fruits, Palate shows some nice complexity even in such youth; ripe blueberries, red raspberries and notes of sassafras are in there too. I don’t admit it often, but I might have hit this one a wee bit early. Tannins are large and balance deft but this one is all about the creamy mid-palate today. Finish is long, minutes long. I have a feeling sitting with this one for a few hours I will be able to see it unwind itself. Let’s see where this goes.

  • Great nose of blueberries, coffee and chocolate. The palate is thick and smooth with more ripe berries and some oak. Creamy and long. Sweet finish. A big wine that either got soft in a hurry or there's a little bottle variation because it was much more vibrant and in your ace ten months ago. Either way great drink.

  • Harris has quickly become one of my favorite producers and this is why. Day one this wine had a monster nose of very ripe blackberries. The palate was like biting on a perfectly ripe plum. It covered the whole palate with a velvet smooth feel. No heat, some oak in the form of vanilla and a bit of strawberry after some air. On day two the strawberry was more prominent and flavors including black licorice and baking spices appeared. On day three the fruit was a little more subdued with a clear note of cinnamon and chocolate. Still vivrant and intense. What a wonderful wine.
