At a tasting, Cotes-Rotie and Saint Joseph. Decanted about an hour. Very similar to the 2009 Yves Cuilleron St. Joseph the Rosalie brought. If anything, it looked a little brighter, younger. Very smooth palate, a bit sweeter than the Cuilleron. Long finish. Like the Cuilleron, most thought it was Cotes-Rotie. On day 2, however, this one held up nicely, no fade, still drinking well.

A pleasant herbal stemminess up front on the nose that, with time, opens up to aromas of cherry candy. In the mouth, it's juicy, with cranberry and cherry, getting leafy on the finish. A nice value in Rhone syrah.

I think the CT average is pretty right. This is a fuller, rounder St. Joseph, lacking a bit in acidity for the appellation. Tannins are round and soft and not terribly distinctive. Nice round flavors, too, of blackberries, plums, a touch of umami. Medium long finish.

Spicy, dark fruits and vanilla nose - damsons, spice, smoke, a bit drying on the palate. Gravelly stones but not bad.
