Popped n poured last nite at Norma & Victor's. Cherries, leather & earth on the nose. Light to medium bodies, tart cherry and currant on the palate. Solid acidic core, no tannins apparent, and oak is hardly noticeable. Fairly long finish. More acid than fruit. Enjoyable but, at least on this nite, the wine seems no more than a glorified chianti.

Pergole Torte lunch (Chicago, IL): While this is by no means a bad wine, it didn't live up to the potential and potency of the others in the flight. This strongly reminds me of the 2008 red Burgundy vintage, with its bright red fruits and heavy perfume, but that also carries through to the relatively thin palate and high acidity. For me, this had the least potential of further aging, and revisiting this wine later on also did not yield great results.

Popped the cork and let it open up in the bottle for about 2.5 hours before enjoying with a T-bone off the grill; grilled asparagus with miso butter and home made french fries. Nose was very pretty upon opening, and you could taste the sunny Tuscan summer of '08 very clearly. Velvety, soft tannins made this super easy to drink though seemingly thinner than other vintages of this wine. A great wine for sure but not intended for much in the way of a long cellar life. I only have one '08 and think now is an ideal time to drink it. No upside from here but would probably keep for a little longer. The color started out bright but muddied/browned out at about hour 4.

Integrated. Tart cherry. Leather. Satiny. Tamari. Pomegranate. Elevated acid alcohol tannins. Mid inflection and a glorious mix of dense expressive fruit and tertiary detail.

Strong camphor on the nose; on the palate, cherry, tart currant, and light spices on the medium to long finish, with no noticeable tannins and powerful acidity. As noted by others here, this is out of balance, with the acid overwhelming the fruit. It's interesting as an unusual expression of Sangiovese, and it works well enough with food, but at $70 it's a poor value.

Weekly tasting group RWP #235: Tuscany (@ BS): Lovely bouquet with beautiful oak, flowers, red and dark berries as well as chocolate. On the palate dark berries, laurel, licorice, some metal, earth, mint, a bit backwards, drying tannin and some nutty flavors. A bit tertiary as well?? Special and beautiful wine which I will not score…

Shows Bordeaux-like complexity and density with lovely notes of earthy black fruits, warm spices and smoky minerals. Balanced and nuanced and very drinkable now.

Warned by previous tasting notes, I didn't decant the wine. Glad I didn't, the wine is indeed quite evolved, so I wouldn't keep this much longer. Nevertheless a more than decent glass.

Tuscany Wine Club (Our apt): This was probably my least favorite wine of the day although I wonder if some of that wasn't to do with the fact that it had a shorter decant than some of the others and it was coming on the heels of the Galatronas which seemed to overpower it. Lots more acidity here. It had a bit of the funkiness on the nose which only sortof translated to the palette. If there was fruit it hadn't quite come out. Very light wine for a SuperTuscan.
Nose of earth and forest floor. Fruit is fairly dark, but reserved. More mineral, earth palate, but fairly reserved. Enough structure with modestly firm acid and tannin that it has some age still to go, but it isn't prickly. Medium finish and length. In fact I'd describe it as drinking very well. Medium firm acid, medium to full bodied. Compared with the 2009 and 2010, this appeared early maturing, so a shorter timeline than the rest. With a short decant, no reason to wait.
Of note, this is NOT a super-tuscan. There is no Cab or Merlot in this. Just Sangiovese with a touch of Colorino and Canaiolo.

Medium to light red. Some VA and dark fruit. Medium body. Ripe entry with significant back side tannin and acidity. Nice combination of powerful fruit coupled with lots of structure to resolve. Good potential here.

Smells of forest floor with a touch of sweet spices, rather complex, more savoury than fruity. Med+ body, tastes younger and tighter than 09. Surely needs time, lots of elements on the palate including very nice acidity, dense sgv texture, but a bit disjointed yet. Quite complex, long and tasty anyway.

Slightly out of balance. Quite acidic, not a ton of structure. This is what I assume Italy tasted like before I was born. Fresh and fruity, but not the IGT 100%Sangiovese I was expecting.

After one hour decant, very nice. Paired well with lamb chops. Full bodied. Brown red color. Smooth citric aftertaste
