A praiseworthy and interesting effort to explore the potential in California for the Picpoul grape from the Rhone, that is unlikely to win over many hearts. Yellow color with butterscotch pudding aromas and some alcoholic whiffs. Enters the mouth with a good acid bite, distinctive ginger taste, fair concentration, and moderately rich texture. But what most holds the wine back is the failure to ever become delicious.

Pale, golden with age, this wine at this time has a pleasantly mellow character on the nose that's somehow more satisfying than the taste. On the palate (mine, at least) it's barely there, while the nose speaks gently, but assertively, of age minerals citrus, and casks

Very tasty, and a great foil for a dinner of tilapia with capers in stewed tomato broth over fresh parsley pasta. A truckload of minerals from bouquet through finish with lemon, lime and grapefruit notes. The label indicates that Picpoul has the highest acid of any southern Rhone white varietal. But it's been nicely tamed in this bottling.

Light acidic pineapple and lemon drops on the initial palate transition to a coconut cream mid palate which continues into a short tropical finish. The tart and acidic opening and lush round mid palate are a bit at odds here. Too much compromise. Alcohol pokes out as well. Good but there are much better choices within the TC line up.

A really nice effort, this is a fuller more assertive picpoul than I'm used to with French versions I've had. This one has little of the 'lip stinger' and instead opts for a rounder almost lush mouthfeel, it has apple and floral notes and some minerality. This may have been better the second night after storing a half bottle in the refrigerator.

Lovely smokey characteristics, hints of trail mix (mostly nuts), a bit oily in texture, really a nice wine. Nice body, decent acidity, hints of fresh baked French Bread and pears on the finish.

Small note, Re: ichhina's 10/5/2011 "From the winemaker" post: The pairing description does not match that on the producer's website and may represent ichhina's opinion (http://www.tablascreek.com/picpoul10.shtml) though the wine description is accurate. The producer lists the following as suggested pairings: Fried Calamari, Thai dishes with lemongrass & ginger, Dover sole, Ceviche, Braised Tuna or Swordfish. .
Clear yellow and lite in the glass. Pungent citrus peel and tropical fruit on the nose. Lite body with piña colada on the palate. Secondary wet stone and tropical pith. Nice structure. Medium finish.

Powerful aromas of pineapple, white flowers, grilled citrus and caramel. In the mouth it is brightly acidic with flavors of pina colada broadened by a hint of toast, a lush texture, then reverting to brightness on a lemony, mineral-laced finish.

Bright lemony acidity leads the way here with some pineapple and coconut cream flavors. Medium body with great minerality and good length. Lemon drops meet pina colada.

Would be a great pairing with a creamy chicken pasta. Drink in the next two to three years.

A lighter style, with the promised acidity. A terrific wine with food, but perhaps a little reserved when finishing the bottle by itself after dinner. Still, nothing to complain about.

Tasting room pour. Light tropical nose. Coconut and light tropical fruits on palate with pronounced acidity. Creamy minerality shows up on mid palate and continues through the short finish. Very clean. Lower fruit character. Interesting and a good food wine but nothing profound here.

Very nice white Rhone from TC.
Label say "lip stinger" due to higher acidity. Makes this wine more enjoyable and interesting, lively.

Acidic, nice pineapple-like taste. Would have first guessed as "old world", which I guess is what the wine maker is shooting for.
