Consumed in a series of Carlisle Zins, these are my last bottles:
1. 2008 Lingenfelder 2. 2008 Sonoma County 3. 2007 Sonoma County 4. 2007 Papera Ranch 5. 2007 Montafi Ranch 6. 2009 Montafi Ranch 7. 2009 Gold Mine Ranch
While still delicious, this version is lighter in color, weight, and flavor than the previous Zins in this series. Consumed over two nights. Heavy sediment on the cork, with little aroma on opening. This wine took over an hour to open up. Lighter fruit, well balanced with mild acidity and tannins. After a bit, spicy pepper definitely emerged. On the second night, this wine was "rounder" and stood up nicely to the asian chili pasta I craved.

Drinking well now. Raspberries, blackberries, spice and hints of floral in the nose. Black cherries, blackberries, licorice, and mineral notes in the flavor. Medium to full bodied with a smooth medium to long finish.

Bright crimson in color. 15.2% ABV. Red and black fruits, cream, milk chocolate and anise on the nose. Medium body with juicy acidity. Pretty delicious Zinfandel but slightly lacking the verve and energy that I typically expect from Carlisle. Cherries, blackberries, iron and white pepper on the palate. Medium length on the finish. The bar is so high for Mike Officer that despite being eminently drinkable this wine falls short of expectations. Drink over the next year or so.

Fading more quickly than I thought. Plummy, slightly muddled fruits, less definition than previously, just kind of falling into a melange, without the crisp detail usually found at this house. Still yummy, just not quite in the same league as other Carlisle Zins. Drink up.

Sour fruited the first day, with significantly more of an upfront acidic flavor profile than other Carlisle Zins. Not so tasty actually, though this settled down to more basic red-fruited goodness by the end of an hour in glass.

Popped and poured. More spice than fruit but reasonable balance between the two. Very smooth. Cherry and plum fruit. Long nice very smooth finish. Gets better with more air as more fruit appears. Color is very dark, almost black.

EWG at AKA: Quite big, one dimensional blackberry fruited zin; good richer style but this got lost between the others and have sketchy notes. However, I believe this '09 was slightly more balanced and not as big and chunky as the '08.

As with most young wines, drank over 24 hours (87-91=89). At open, TART berries on the entry and a bit hot, but a great long and pleasing finish. As oxygen gets in, the tartness of the entry becomes a pleasing trait while the finish holds up, leading to a pleasurable wine and a nice buy at release price.

Popped and poured. Smoked meats on nose, incredible aromas. Off-dry to medium sweet. Medium tannins with intense flavors of spice box, white pepper, & Asian dried peppers. On second day, the fruit really opened up with layers of raspberry compote and liquor. Superior balance & acidity. Drink now or within 2 years.

Thick & juicy, it offers up dark raspberry & spiced plum. Very smooth. Initially, it turns a tad sour on the finish. But, after about 2 hours of air this fades.
Decant and drink in the next 24-28 months.

Popped and poured. Needs some more time for the flavors to integrate. Mostly fruit with some pepper and allspice. Blueberry and cherry flavors predominate. An unusual eucalyptus whiff on the nose. ABV is 15.2%. Noticeable on the nose but not on the palate. No sweetness - purity of fruit without excessive fruit sweetness. Not for the faint of heart, but not an over the top fruit bomb either. Popped and poured and followed over 2 hours. Lighter in body than other Carlisle Zin's I've had but still a nice good core of sweet fruit. Vinturi decant and drank over 3 hours. Translucent black/red color. Dark fruits with fresh raspberry. Really slow to open, but adding more raspberry and licorice notes with time. Good, but not great. Hasn't come together as much as some Carlisle zins I've had. Really too young.

Wow! My style. Great acidity and structure for an 09 Carlisle Zin. Fresh and interesting. Huge bursting nose of crushed raspberries on opening, with the palate lagging a little. Not harboring a big brambly component, which I like also - more subtle Zin characteristics allowed to shine. Quite nice, and my favorite Mike Office Gold Mine Zin to date - and in general I'm not a fan of the fruit forward aspects of 09, so this is a real achievement. Bravo! Now and for another 7 years?

Of a three bottle horizontal (Gold Mine, Carlisle, and Dry Creek Valley) this was my favorite. Not as fruit forward as the Carlisle, but given time and the layers of Gold Mine start to really show. I found myself coming back to the GM more often, hence the 93. More red fruits than the Carlisle and without the earthy component.

Popped and poured. A bit of funk for the first 20 minutes and I thought this bottle was corked initially. After that, a very well-balanced wine began to emerge over the next couple hours.
