  • Interesting with a 13 year old Barbera. Deep ruby concentrated red and blue fruits, cherries and some spicy elements with a touch of vanilla from the oak. Medium-full budy. Medium acid and medium tannins in the background. Good long aftertaste. Not very complex but very pleasant wine.

  • Dark red-brown, intense acidity and heat, lots of black pepper, medium tannins, some dark fruit. Not very barbera typical and a bit out of balance. Not as good as expected, although decent length. Might settle down and improve somewhat over the coming years, but the fruit will probably not unfold much more,

  • I would've never guessed this as Barbera! Smell is spicy with coffee, tobacco and plum. Taste has dark chocolate, tobacco, dark cherry and blackberry.
Fresh fruit but dominated with very high spiciness and acidity. I wish I would've waited some more years to get the most of it. For Barbera this wine has amazing depth to it.

  • Cupissimo rubino. Il legno (caffè, tostatura, mentolo) condiziona ancora il naso, poi prugna secca, bacche rosse, ginepro, menta e traversina ferroviaria, chiodo di garofano, cannella. Bocca ricca, intensa, molto assertiva. Stile Braida

  • A very deep colour, almost black; this is full and rich, with smoky blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, a fairly thick texture with some tannin in the background, and good length. Quite impressive.

  • Dense dark color. Nose of dark cherries and some cassis, tar and sandalwood (?). Taste of sourish cherries, high acidity and unresolved tannins. Warm finish. Difficult on its own but better with food, but overall a disappointment. 86-87p

  • Some Italians at Thierry's place: I took this wine as an aperitif wine, based on CT notes suggesting a bland, unimposing wine ... wrong! Served blind, the guys had this as a Nebbiolo, a young Barolo or Barbaresco. Deep, primary purple/red colour. A tarry bouquet of blackberries, dark cherries and black plums and brown baking spices. Almost a suggestion of high toned blueberry. Also, in the mouth, tarry and quite tannic. This is a young, broad shouldered wine, with big fruit volume and weight. Good acidity and in balance. The flavours are again tar, blackberries and other dark fruit, espresso and liquorice. A modern style, with a satiny mouthfeel. This is a serious wine but there is a lot of oak to integrate so give this Barbera 5 + years cellar time.

  • With the breadth of a hair from a recently found sheep better than 'good'. But nothing else, nothing more.

This is bland-bland-bland. It has no personality. No handles. No sense of terroir/place that my nasal gas chromatographer can decipher. The signage from the grapes say: "bland red wine" and I hate it.

This means I still have no confidence (actually NO CLUE) to pin-point Barbera in a blind tasting. It also means I wasted a lot of money on a La Spinetta that under delivered big time.

Furthermore, it means that the previous btl we had was when it should have been enjoyed. This one had a perfect cork with only a couple of mm of red wetness.

I look forward to Barbera as a good food wine, not as a wine I'd like to meet in a blind tasting. Because this grape is... bland...

  • Deep ruby color with only a slim lighter colored rim. Very youthful in appearance.
The nose is quite open, and has some oak, toast, vanilla and ripe bramble. It is very dark on the nose, dark and dense. Things have started to happen on the nose, but I believe only just.
It has a good zesty acidity, and an almost creamy mouthfeel on the sides of the tongue. The development of flavours and the acidity is not perfect right now, but there is a compact centre of flavours, which makes me feel comfortable saying that the wines acidity will not keep dominating the mid palate.
What the wine has now is still the oak and everything that comes with it. On the fruit side it is bramble and after there is pepper and coffee beans.
It is almost very long, but for now just long. It is well knit together, and is a wine for keeping for a while. The finish is soft and pleasant.

  • Tannic for a barbera. Should have waited a year or two, but quite enjoyable.

  • An amazingly rich nose and well built wine. Acids are on the higher end of the scale and tannins are over medium. Ending long with good oak, clarity of fruit, rich spices and layered concentration. The wine needs to rest some more years. Very much enjoyed!
