"Casual DRC BYO": 07620/14651. Lovely vintage ripeness, much weightier than this wine in other vintages, with classic woodiness and enough red fruit to caress the palate. It was however quite sleepy throughout the night; not a vintage to drink yet, still. 93-94

I regard this as the best vintage ever made by DRC that I have tasted. Stunningly rich, expressive. Very sappy and plush, almost exhuberant, but its got enough tension and acidity to frame it all in. There's a beautiful milky, dusty coat that grips the tongue. Red and blue fruit, rose petals, exotic spices. Had this once or twice a year for over a decade and it mostly is consistent except it often shuts down and opens in cycles like a great wine trying to find its plateau. Easily last a few more decades. 5 years more at least before it finds its plateau.

Terrific bottle, an exotic and thrilling Echezeaux that's wonderful now with a long life ahead. Quite a bit more accessible than recently tasted '99 Richebourg, RSV, and GE. Spice, tea, and rose petals this is reference standard bravo!

As good if not perhaps even better paired with food from esora! So layered complex and changed quite a bit over the drinking window. But certainly could still cellar because of the incredible structure of the 99. Love it!

1999 DRC Horizontal. Need to investigate when this cuvee turned the corner but certainly not by 1999. Slightly fuzzy, creamy and a touch cooked. You’d be silly or masochistic not to trade up to GE. (10020/14651)

Score is low as I think these 99s are still shut down esp from better producers. They need more time. This was one where I preferred the Grands Ech to the Ech but both need another 10 years before they will be ready to try. Less aromatics on the nose. A great wine in the making. Be patient.

Pristine bottle still shows young. Very, very classy juice destined to be one of the all time great DRC Ech. Today, it's just not there, only showing a shadow of what it will be. I love the spice and the fruit, this will improve with some softening up. 10-15 years this should be lights out brilliant.

Another dinner @ Christiansholm (Klampenborg): Quite dark and almost rustic, this is very much showing the vintage - especially when served vis à vis a 2002 wine. I was guessing all over the place here, as the dark and concentrated showing did not lead us to Burgundy. This is still very young and need time. #Schur

DRC 1999 tasting, impeccable provenance. wine nr 1. Deep intense nose with wild cherries, dark chocolate, christmas spices, violet, strawberry. Mature nose, bordering on oxidative. Slim elegant body, intense spicy mouthfeel, soft tannins. Slightly past its prime, drink now. 92p

"Ezooks" - Echezeaux's new name! Beautiful wine, bright and fresh on the attack, touch of wood on the nose but the ripe fruit easily absorbs it on the palate.

Pre-Auction Dinner (Morini): Dark and damp cola aromas. Nose isn't giving up a lot early on. Herbaceous spices, licorice. Dense and intense. Far better on the palate. Explosive black cherry fruit. Tingling finish. Anything the nose leaves behind the palate certainly makes up for. A supremely well-built wine. Nose picks up more and more, this just should have been decanted earlier.

Drank alongside Georges Jayer's 99 Ech, and I like this wine better, opened for 3 hours prior to consumption. The nose can hardly get any better for a burgundy red, with ripe plummy fruit and deep floral nose and loads of spices. Very solid palate with loads of stuffings and great balance, very long finish with excellent definition, simply superb.

Leathery red cherry and cranberry. Baking dough. Dry clay. Still young with exploding red cherry and grippy tannin for burgundy. Drying cranberry but still delivering juice. It's young but showing development. Incredible concentration and purity of fruit, young but showing hopeful development already. Red and black cherry and juicy plum. Enjoyed alongside a '99 Rouget Echezeaux, which had a superior nose, but a comparatively underwhelming palate. An impressive piece 0f work no doubt but probably best to revisit in a few years.

Piuttosto diverso all' Echezeaux 2000 bevuto il mese scorso. 91-93

Wine snobs that I know have described my palate as meat and potatoes because of my preference for big, bold wines from Bordeaux and for my lack of appreciation for Pinot noir. I would describe my palate as mature and I would describe burgundy as inconsistent. Nonetheless, this was simply perfect. This opened quickly and drank wonderfully. Full of ripe fruit with a long finish. If only all burgundy drank like this....

Most exotic nose of the 4 vintages of DRC Ech present -- coconut and gingerbread along with Vosne spice and dark fruit. '99 is such a great vintage and this wine reflects it, being a cut above the other Echezeaux. Yet it still didn't have the depth and length I'd expect from such an esteemed producer in such a great vintage. Perhaps it will gain those things with many more years in bottle?

Opens with a floral lift. It's still quite dark in colour. With time in the glass, you get black fruits, spice and an exotic aroma too. In the mouth, the feel is fantastic. It's fine and elegant, poised and intense, all at the same time. There are dark fruits, mineral edges, earthy tones, spices. But it's the balance that is most appealing. The acids are there, but so beautifully offset against the tannins and fruits. It makes it a very food friendly proposition too. No rush to drink it.

Pre-Harlan Warm-up at Brad England's House: The color is a dark orange/red. The nose gives a complex melange of black cherry, a strong spice, and earthy elements. Very interesting. On the palate this gives plenty of red fruit, fine grained tannins, good acidity, and a long finish. An excellent wine, but at this point in its development the nose is showing better than the palate.

Stunningly pure, sweet black cherries and fruit leap from the glass, and you could simply sniff it all night. Huffing Echezeaux is a great high, but ultimately a very expensive and dangerous habit. It initially attacked well, but considerable tannin locked down the middle and the finish. Fortunately, a few hours of air allowed the fruit to assert itself and to expand the middle and lingering finish. Much more structured than the Dujac, this is a wine for the cellar, not the table.
