This is no elegant dancer. This is all forward and brawny. Still shows its oak. Strong lemon chiffon and citrus peel. Plenty of heft on the palate yet. The acidity is not quite up to the task of supporting it though. Even a touch of heat on the nose. Yet, it still captures your attention. Its tasty and powerful. Maybe more time with give it some focus. Not sure there is the depth for that to happen.

In my cellar since release. Previous bottles as recently as 6 months ago were fabulous, but this time I opened 2 very oxidized bottles before the 3rd was drinkable. I love older Mount Eden Chards but this is the worst string of over 10 year old bottles I have had (previous bottles from this case ranged from 93-96 for me). The good one was bright medium golden yellow and with great texture and weight showing lemon curd, marzipan, some slight nuttiness, vanilla and some pear notes with a very mineral finish. Bright with acidity. Long finish. Lacking the depth and complexity compared to the best examples of this I have had.

In my cellar since release. This was a gorgeous bottle of top flight Chard. Bright medium golden yellow color. It has a wonderfully fragrant nose that shows white flowers, light hazelnuts, lemon citrus, ripe white peach and ocean saltiness. Great acidity and layers of flavor that reflect the nose with no hint of oxidation. Chewy texture and richness balances the acidity. There is some slight creaminess about it but it is subtle in the background. Amazingly long finish with a strong sense of mineral saltiness. Plenty of life left well beyond the next few years if stored well…Delicious!

I bit of a trade off with the fruit receded, but nothing excessive, and the good part is that wine has held together at 10+ years and is nicely balanced. The acid bite i get from most chardonnay has mellowed really nicely.

Not as good as the last bottle I had as this wine seems to be gradually in decline. Nose of orchard fruits mixed with autumn leaves. Pomelo, pineapple, ripe pear, toast and hint of vanilla on the palate . The wine structurally is holding up nicely but there is a slightly old feeling to the flavors creeping in.

In my cellar since release. Decanted an hour before returning it to bottle and taking to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. Beautiful lemon yellow color. Clean aromas of lemon green apple minerals and just a touch of cream. Palate has great acidity no sign of any oxidation and a rich textured mouth feel. Apple lemon and white peach follow in layers with a long but slightly lean and minerally finish.

Blind Tasting at Jim and Stacia’s (New Jersey, USA): In my cellar since release. Decanted for aeration then returned to bottle for transport to a tasting. Bright medium to dark lemon yellow. Fragrant nose of light citrus, vanilla, caramel, slight oak, buttered popcorn and lime blossom. Palate is bright with acidity and a chewy texture with flavors of lemon, stone fruit and some creme brûlée on the finish which lasted more than a minute. So impeccably balances and young for a decade+ old wine, so bright and energetic BUT it needs decanting. A couple of hours of air brings out the richness and depth of flavor that is reticent on first opening.
P.s. This wine was somewhat controversial with the group at 2 of the 8 people at the tasting seemed to really dislike this wine, one of whom liked it better with food.

Medium golden. This is starting to decline. The nose smells a little faded and off while still retaining some floral and marmalade type notes. The palate is fully mature with flavors of orchard fruit, pineapple and vanilla.

decanted for 2 hours before drinking and served at cellar temperature. The color is a bright, deep golden yellow. On the nose there was initially some slight oakiness but that gave way with more air, along with chalky minerals, butterscotch, green apple and lemon blosson. Mouth feel is wonderfully rich yet bright with acidity. Palate is a little buttery but more stony with lemon baked apple, and grilled peach. Finish is extremely long at well over 60 seconds. So balanced and delicious to drink. It got better for another hour plus and had a very long, minute plus finish. Plenty of life left!

Med gold; allspice and cardamom on P&P, later more baked apple; crisp tart apple on the palate, but more nutty, sherry character on the finish; med long. Not flawed, just old bones, getting too old at 10 yrs.

baked apple, sweet spice, and golden honey. A certain citrusy freshness - lemon, tangerine - still remains, but with a decade of age the wine now leans more towards candied mango, hazelnut, and caramel. Well balanced acidity and body are keeping things plenty drinkable, both now and for a handful of years to come. No need to wait though - this is a treat to drink now and a satisfying auction pick up. Worth grabbing if you happen to come across a bottle!

Don't typically like Cal Chard, but I do like this one. Very yellow, scarily so, but good acid and no oxidation at all. Rich and luxurious, yet crisp and clean, stone fruit, minerals and lemon, a hint of vanilla and herbs on the nose, not oaky, went very well with lemony Sole Mueniere.

I always love this wine, Californian without being slutty, at all. Great depth, complexity and cut. I did notice a slight oxidation on the finish of this bottle. Not sure if it was bottle variation or if they're (slowly) on the way down.

They've done it again. This has clearly aged very well and seems to be hitting its drinking window, but has the structure to still be enjoyable for quite some years. Classic francophile Californian chardonnay, could easily cost much more. 93-94 pt.

Liquid Farm / Chard Double Blind- Dallas (Classic Wine Storage- Dallas): Wine #13 in a line up of 15 blind chards (preceded by Varner Spring Ridge Bee Block 2011). Very elegant nose of lemons, oyster shell and saline. On the palate, it had lemons, apples and baking spices. Extremely long finish (longer than any other in this lineup) that was very consistent with the palate. Medium acidity. Very little oak influence was evident. This was easily my favorite of the tasting and seems to have a long life ahead of it.

A beautiful elegant wine. Golden yellow color with scent of tart citrus and grass. However, the nose completely belies the taste. A long elegant creamy texture with hints of vanilla and gardenias on the finish. Just enough minerality to balance everything. One of the best chards I've had in a while. Drink. In its sweet spot.

Thought this was quite nice, though perhaps overpirced. The nose is rather typical, with ripe orchard fruits, brown spice, vanilla, and caramelized nuts. The medium-full bodied palate is surprisingly lively, balancing baked apples with lemon acidity, slate, and white flowers. The finish is long and fresh, adding herbs, vanilla, and roasted nuts. Drink or Hold.

Vertical of Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay (Nopa, San Francisco): Perhaps a half shade light yellow than the 2 older vintages. More lemony citrus aromatics than either of the other 2 wines. Higher acidity and definitely a less harmonious feel, but over time, as it opened in the glass it fleshed out and became more similar to the vintages that came before it. Still, less concentration, a bit more neutral flavors and my least favorite of the flight.

All the right kinds of goodness for a chardonnay. great depth and complexity of flavors. pear and honey suckle on the nose, taste of some sweet honey, lemon, lemon peel, just enough acidity to make it fun to have with food but not too much. not enough minerality for me but there is some there. could age for 5-10 years without trouble. good value at $50

A Week in Las Vegas; 3/26/2012-4/2/2012 (Las Vegas, NV): Great stuff. Rich but elegant with a perfumed nose of butterscotch, lanolin, sea salt and white florals. Tasted non-blind at a wine dinner. Opened 2 hours before tasting. Very nice nose of pineapple and salt. On the palate, it had a light citrus/mineral profile with a hint of black tea. Opened at let breathe, serving at around 52 - 55 degrees. A rich golden colour with a watery rim. Dried pineapple, lemon essence, carmeled apple, mineral, sea salt and white tea. Round and extremely long - I really can't a imagine a longer finish from a Chardonnay. A polarity in your mouth and the extended magnetism is addicting; acidity that hits the right meridian. So much fruit and mineral, with the body of an age-worthy wonder. Drink now - 2022.

This is a delicious bottle in a great spot. Some oak, not too much. Lush, but not over the top. All in balance. Fruit was nice, tropical.

Wow. A wonderful representation of a well done Cali chard. Hints of vanilla with bright fruits and acid and a lovely dark golden hue. A well balanced wine that actually could probably go another 6-10 years with ease

Special. The most memorable chardonnay I've tasted in some time. Steely, citrus, and yet full bodied and rich. Delicious!

A nice bottle of bigger, oakier chard. Some rough edges, but a very nice full bottle wine. Long finish. Solid acid. Not more enjoyable than the lower end Wolfe Vineyard from the same year.

Anniversary Dinner (The Anvil Club, East Dundee, IL): Graciously opened by M/M thelostverse, decanted for an hour+ if I recall correctly. Light golden color with notes of apple, vanilla, butterscotch and spice. Rich, toasted qualities on the nose & palate. Baked apple and toast qualities on the finish with a stony/minerally tinge. Long finish. Gorgeous.

Lots of life in this one. Medium gold/straw color. Rich look to it in the glass. A little mineral and citrus on the nose but a vibrant pear and apple on the palate. It's is a wonderfully complex but young wine that has a bright future. Patience will be rewarded.

Similar to prior note 4/6/2012, but perhaps ever so slightly milder. This Chard has a lot of character and complexity and yet it remains a pleasant easy sipper too.

Smooth and easy drinking Chardonnay, with fantastic structure and acidity. Shows honeysuckle and lemon cream flavors, nice minerality and a beautiful long, lingering finish that keeps you wanting more. 2008 vintage seems slightly lighter/ milder than some prior years, but outstanding just the same.

A Week in Las Vegas; 3/26/2012-4/2/2012 (Las Vegas, NV): Great stuff. Rich but elegant with a perfumed nose of butterscotch, lanolin, sea salt and white florals. The palate was electric with great acidity, lemon zest, crushed stones and a salty tone. This is a great chardonnay with white burgundy elegance and power with a Californian brightness to it. Nice combination.

Tasted non-blind at a wine dinner. Opened 2 hours before tasting. Very nice nose of pineapple and salt. On the palate, it had a light citrus/mineral profile with a hint of black tea. Long finish with notes of tea, peaches, sea salt and earth. Very impressive overall in a subtle way. Drinking well now but could easily age for 5-10 years.
