This bottle was still in its "prime" drinking window. Very, very rich, with a long finish. This isn't my favorite style of Chardonnay, but it does what it does at a very high level, and it has exceptional longevity for a "big" Cali Chard.

Consumed a magnum and the wine was excellent: notes of citrus, green apple, minerals with good acidity and balance. Paired with grilled Chilean sea bass with a lemon beurre balance sauce - outstanding.

This is no elegant dancer. This is all forward and brawny. Still shows its oak. Strong lemon chiffon and citrus peel. Plenty of heft on the palate yet. The acidity is not quite up to the task of supporting it though. Even a touch of heat on the nose. Yet, it still captures your attention. Its tasty and powerful. Maybe more time with give it some focus. Not sure there is the depth for that to happen.

In my cellar since release. Previous bottles as recently as 6 months ago were fabulous, but this time I opened 2 very oxidized bottles before the 3rd was drinkable. I love older Mount Eden Chards but this is the worst string of over 10 year old bottles I have had (previous bottles from this case ranged from 93-96 for me). The good one was bright medium golden yellow and with great texture and weight showing lemon curd, marzipan, some slight nuttiness, vanilla and some pear notes with a very mineral finish. Bright with acidity. Long finish. Lacking the depth and complexity compared to the best examples of this I have had.

(Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains) Light lemon yellow color; nice tart lemon, tart pineapple nose; tight, tasty, luscious, tart lemon curd palate with near medium acidity; needs 2 years; medium-plus finish
