Double decanted in the early AM, then decanted for about an hour before drinking that evening.
Roses, tar, little savory herbal nettle and meaty notes not he nose. It a savory and red more than dark fruited nebbiolo, with umami and porcini notes on the palate that compliment the classic floral and tar notes. Excellent mineral backbone and focus. This is drinking well already with time in hand.

Similar on the nose to the Giovanni Rosso Cerretta I just tried, but with a menthol note as well. Medium-bodied on the palate, with good persistence - very likable, and like the first wine, plenty of time in front of it. I might have a slight preference for this on opening, but both wines are a pleasure to drink on a nice Fall day.

Bolognese, Brovias, and more (My place, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is drop, dead gorgeous as it fills the glass with perfumed tones of red cherries, strawberries, savory herbs, licorice, raspberries, violets, crushed rocks, earth tones, leather, and a touch of ash.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The structure is fairly resolved right now and has given way to a gorgeous and deep feel with red cherries, strawberries, raspberries, violets, crushed rocks, savory herbs m, tobacco, and leather tones.
Overall: This is gorgeous and really opened up in the glass. There is a refined and elegant nature to this that is immensely attractive while still having a bit of weight behind it.
Cool-toned, focused nose, more red fruits than black - lovely.
Not as focused on the palate - decent acidity for lift, but there is a hole in the mid-palate. Still, at the end of the day, I could be drinking a lot worse on a Thursday afternoon.

Fresh on the nose, vibrant red colour with orange edges, somewhat austere cru in this classic year, but no negative signs of age whatsoever. In my cellar since release. medicinal notes, mint, dark red fruit, tannins and acidity still there and in perfect balance, would have guessed a younger wine, maybe 2004-06

Similar in color to the '99. The nose here is not as developed - faint red fruits in the background.
There is a medicinal note on the palate, slightly reminiscent of cherry cough syrup. At least on opening, I have a clear preference for the '99, which comes across as both fresher and more vibrant.

Dull ruby color. Nose is classic Barolo with ripe fruit, black tea and rose. Initially, there was a bit of VA that blew off with time. A wine developing - mature sweet fruit is emerging yet there is unresolved tannin and a rambunctious playfulness that should mellow and round with more age. Try next bottle in 2023. (93+?)

Light translucent ruby in the glass; red fruits and menthol on the nose. Like the Rosso, this is a day 2 glass from a bottle opened for last night's dinner.
Approachable at this point, with just a hint of unresolved tannin on the finish. My wife and I both preferred the Rosso Cerretta to this last night, and today I still think that wine shows better. Maybe just a reflection of my palate, but Brovia's Villero seldom hits that "sweet spot" for me like his Ca' Mia, Rocche or Garblet Sue'.

Light translucent ruby in the glass; ripe red and black fruits with a funky note in the background - complex and interesting nose.
Expansive and relatively open on the palate - the fruit here is ripe, but there is still decent acidity present. Drinking very well today - popped and poured from a case bought on release.
Opened for a few hours prior to drinking which was probably not enough - although tannins were pretty wide open by the end of dinner. Classic Nebbiolo with an deep, savory and almost peppery core (although wine dominated by tar, rose, mint, etc. ). This wine also has great density and power - I often find Nebbiolo can unravel in 24 hours but this was solid the next day. Wine is still pretty tannic, in a great way, with lots a life ahead.

Splurge purchase at Del Posto NYC. Asked sommelier for an aged Barolo that would work with short decant. Rich red with a frankly amazing nose of cherry, violet and leather notes. Fails to carry through to the palate, however. Super closed down and austere with only a slight evolution over the 2.5 hour meal. Iron and blood on the medium finish. Underwhelemed, but maybe just not my thing.

Ageing more than I would have expected. Very brown as it was decanted, with a heavy sediment. Opens nicely and has a sweet taste with moderate length. N

5 hours upon opening serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Pale ruby to the eyes.
Soy and savoury red cherries. Not unlike a top Brunello di Montalcino?
Very lightfooted on palate and while tannins are exceptionally integrated.
94 points.

Uncorked and slow-oxed for 18 hours prior to serving into 薄はり葡萄酒器 (“Leaf” day): Pale ruby with bricking rim.
Soy sauce and highly savoury. Very good cherry fruits.
Tannin structure is slightly on the more rustic side.
White spices. Really great wines but in face of the crazy lineup tonight...
94 points.

Rosenthal Wine Merchant - Italian Wine Lunch at Barrel Thief (Richmond, VA): Licorice, whole black peppercorns, prune and roasted meat on the very nice nose. The palate was ripe and burgundian in it's elegance. An iron note was obvious in this delicious wine. Great stuff.
