Reddish brown, see through. Getting raspberries and balsamic notes. Short to medium finish. Tasty, drying with some bitterness on the finish. Nice herbal element.

Garnet in color .... browning now. Still a good amount of acidity, refreshing. Medium bodied. Slight tannins left. Some red fruit on mid palate. Balsamic and some salinity at start. Short to medium length finish. Some bitterness as well. Fairly intense aromas of red berries and herbs.

Light and bright garnet red. Nose: quite intense, aromatic herbs, fresh raspberries. On the palate salinity dominates from start to finish, with some underlying red fruit. Good freshness, light and subtle tannins. A bit too much alcohol. A different and special wine. Went very well with food. **

Translucent ruby red color, definitely too light to be mistaken for an international grape other than pinot. Pelaverga is an indigenous varietal that hails from north of Barolo-and I think this is my first exposure. Nose is certainly nothing like pinot: a fragrant mix of flowers and herbal notes, with anise, red berries and minerals poking through. Not fruity or "accessible" in a conventional sense, though there's an inviting and not unexpected acid kick. I would love to think that if presented blind I would have called it Valle D'Aosta, but that's a fantasy. All of the flavors tumble together in the mouth, leaving an impression that is decidedly more floral than fruit-driven, though the berries appear to be peeking through with a little more air. It has a deceptively light texture given the breadth of flavors and its labeled 14% alcohol, resolving in tannins that are quite subdued. This is an idiosyncratic wine of real character, and I suspect it will be much better with food, a theory I will soon test with my wife's stellar bolognese.
Food comment next day: Not a match made in heaven. Seemed the rich flavors of the sauce overwhelmed the more nuanced and delicate wine-an assault rather than a peace treaty. I would try the Pelaverga with high quality salumi and hard cheeses next time.

This had more fun and soul than many wines I've had at double, maybe triple the price. One of those wines for which it's pointless to pick up the pen and write down a bunch of adjectives. Just great, in the way that a good Clos Roche Blanche wine is great. Everyone who had a glass loved it. This is a steal at east coast pricing, for some reason it costs about a third more out west.

Keine Fruchtbombe. Eher zart und zurückhaltend. Ausgeprägte Säure. Trotzdem fein.

Fresh with white pepper, minerals and red berries. Went well with grilled tuna.
