Retail $22. I was going to do the cop-out "consistent notes" thing here again, but re-reading my notes, a few things have changed. First, though she still likes this wine, I would hazard to guess that this is no longer one of my wife's "favorites." My mother-in-law, on the other hand, *loves* this wine as she likes her vino with a bit of sugar on it. While noticeable, it is far from cloying, and helps to balance out the powerful acidity. A bunch of fruit (mostly tree) with some minerality, and that classic petrol. Ten years out and while this is my last bottle, it is still going strong and would have likely held on for another decade. 91. thedrunkencyclist.com

It is really difficult to believe that it has been the better part of five years since I have tried this wine. Today, it is a bit darker, but that is really the only significant difference. Still plenty of petrol, yellow apple, and peach on the nose with a sweet (although far from unctuous), fruity, tart palate. Delightful. thedrunkencyclist.com

(NOTE: This tasting note refers to the 2013 vintage of this wine.) The old-world style Eroica Riesling has been around for years and the 2013 vintage lives up to its good reputation. This wine, pale yellow in color and clear in the glass has a clean, appealing aroma of pears and golden delicious apples. The flavor follows the aroma, with ripe apple and pear blending on the palate. Well balanced, crisp, but not overly acidic, with a slight stoniness present in the finish. Always recommended.

Petrol and some honeysuckle on the nose. A bit on the sweet side, but in no way cloying or overdone--good acidity and a lemon/lime thing on the palate. This is one of my wife's favorites and is always a solid choice for a variety of cuisine, but we like it best with Asian--particularly Korean. Very Good. thedrunkencyclist.com

See my 12/2012 Tasting Note. This bottle was consistent with that note but today the wine seemed too acid. I really see this as a well made wine but just not in the style I believe showcases the Riesling grape. Too acid with too little sweetness to balance the acidity.
My wife did not like this wine.

2009 Chateau Ste. Michelle & Dr. Loosen Riesling Eroica -- quite frankly, this wine was confusing to many gathered. In fairness, I had started the evening with a Prosecco while the group arrived with the expressed desire to move from the bubbly sweet to the still semi-sweet of the Riesling. Perhaps the transition was not as smooth as anticipated. Too bad... As this is a very good wine. 100% Riesling with a low 12.5% alcohol, it offers up quiet citrus tastes coupled with fruit in a low heat manner but it still manages to surprise you with its superb finish. It's minerality is appreciated and it declares itself to be a standout in the world of Rieslings (of which, admittedly, I know too little about). I'm stepping away from the Philistines who tasted this with me and giving it 90 pts. They would have probably settled for 86 pts... As I said, Philistines. 90 pts.

Solid, if unspectacular. Nice balance of acidity and a bit of citrus influenced sweetness without being cloying. Slight effervescence is mildly distracting but not enough to really detract from the overall drinkability of this.

This is a new style Riesling that is common in the US and, sadly, somewhat in Germany too. Now that I insulted most of the current-Riesling fans, I'll say this one was good and I enjoyed it; I have several bottles to see how it ages and develops. It has a tart crispness, yet some sweetness that moderates the tartness. It has a tiny bit of effervescence which is not one of my favorite characteristics in a Riesling. The fruit in the wine is medium body and at 12.5ABV, that indicates nicely developed grapes. The total balance of the wine is such that you get the different flavors at different times while in the mouth – well structured.

Viscous when poured, I had feared a cloyingly sweet, late harvest example. I was pleased when I sensed only a moderate level of sweetness, which dissipated with each glass. This ran squarely along the crisp apple spectrum with strong hints of grapefruit & lemon zest; particularly in the finish. The acidity was pleasantly bracing - delivering a zing to the tongue, which is exactly what I had hoped for. Some minerality and petrol essence came through as it warmed up some. I've longed to try this wine and can't say that I was at all disappointed and so, since many who have drank it before me were, I'd love to try a "better" vintage. In final analysis, although this didn't quite blow me away, it was memorable. I'll have to try another bottle, paired with my intended Thai feast of Pad Prik King, Larb, and Nua Pannang.

Ripe melon! Also honey, pear, some golden raisin. I like Riesling to be dry, and very crisp; I was really missing that crispness here. For more or less the same price I prefer something like dr. Heidemanns dry Riesling. But still quite nice!

A restrained style for WA with some apple, peach and a bit of citrus; minerality is there but not as present as I'd like. Very little petrol to speak of. Acidity is medium +. Drank over two days and it fleshed out a bit in terms of flavors. A good balance between old world and new world, but not as interesting as I had hoped. Very solid.

(12.5%) A partnership between Chateau Ste. Michelle & Dr. Loosen this one starts with a nice floral, stone fruit bouquet On the palate vibrant and fleshly with ripe white peaches (and apple) followed by mineral spiced acidity. This remains relatively dry throughout and has a crisp, refreshing finish. Slightly Kabinett-esque. At $16 I'm likely to stick to Germany for my next purchase but nonetheless this is an enjoyable wine...

Pale yellow color. Nose opens with some apples. spice and white flowers. Shares consistency of a fine refreshing German Kabinett with the tang of an Austrian Grüner Veltliner and the finish says born in the USA. Very floral (Honeysuckle) with lots of minerals, slight pear and green apple. Nice refreshing wine, but after drinking many German Rieslings, I find something missing. Very nice but not outstanding.

The color was very light yellow. There was a nice floral bouquet. I consider this wine to be semi dry. There are good floral overtones, with strong citrus and a bit of minerality. This does not taste the same as the typical German mosel kabinett -- which tend to be sweeter with less alcohol. However this wine went very nicely with shad and was pleasant to drink. The price was very nice.

I'm not big on white wine (except Sauternes) but I love this stuff paired with the right food. It was seared scallops last night and we went through nearly 2 bottles before switching to tawny port to go with fresh fruit and Belgian chocolates for dessert. We will definitely be looking to get more of this highly enjoyable Riesling. It even seems to have a slight fizz to it. Love it and have to shed my white wine prejudice to give it a proper score.

Nose is pineapple, Asian pear, regular pear, and a slight floral note (I think Honeysuckle and Hibiscus). Taste is green apple, lemon, and lime, with a refreshing tartness initially and a hint of honey sweetness on the finish. My wife and I both love the CSM Eroica Riesling. It is consistently good fom year to year, with a balance of sweetness and acidity, which enables it to pair well with foods and keep it from becoming overly sweet. This vintage is not quite up to the '08 or '09, but it is still quite delicious.

Year in and year out I buy this riesling because it is consistently excellent. Small amount of residual sugar balanced nicely by enough acidity to take away any hint of being too sweet. Beautiful fruit nose. Crisp, tart at first with fruit showing up next. Enough acidity to have with food. Though this isn't my favorite vintage (I preferred '08 and '09), it is always a pleasure to consume this.

Pale yellow color with grassy, citrus nose. Hint of mineral, lots of lemon and lime. Nice tangy punch. Slightly effervescent and sweet but not syrupy.Would be a great match to spicy asian fare. Will probably let a few bottles age to see where they go.

Pale yellow. Strong citrus nose, especially limes, with stony minerality too, that comes out on the palate. Very good acidity offsets the fruit. Fairly dry, but sweet enough to go very well with Thai appetizers ofcalamari, pan-seared dumplings, and crispy duck.

Peach and zesty minerality on the nose. Slightly effervescent, yet with the sweet creaminess of meringue, lemon and graham on the palate. A full, pleasing finish. Delicious with spicy Indian dishes and even a Christmas ham. Makes a believer out of most Riesling naysayers, and a good buy at that.

Dry and very aromatic, with good acidity; peaches on the nose, and jasmine on the palate, as well as some (typically Washington state?) minerality; short but intensely floral finish (think New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc). A very New World Riesling that's probably hard to pair with food, except salads (would probably go well with cantaloupe and bacon). Not quite my style, but I can appreciate the quality.

Rating this on what it is and not compared to the reds I enjoy.

Off dry with good acidic zing. It is a crowd pleaser and a good way to introduce someone to Riesling.
