Taken to Kriss's OL at Beechwood in Seal Beach. Something was wrong with this bottle. Don't know if it was vinegar or out of balance or what. But it was not very easy to drink much. All kinky. Since last bottle I had was so good, I have to think something was wrong with this.

This seemed way more forward than the somewhat backward one I had a couple years ago. Not decanted. Bright garnet. Vivid red fruit and berries, with pine, stems, flowers and spice on both nose and palate. The really cool thing is the lift and astounding balance for a zinfandel -- I had to double check the label.

Deep red color. Lovely nose of red fruit and briar. Very concentrated flavors. Tastes of red fruit, bramble, pepper and a hint of chocolate. Long pleasing aftertaste. With food alcohol became more apparent otherwise this is a 90+ wine.

Maybe these need more airtime and a chillier serving temp... I'm not one to be overly penalizing for ripeness in of itself, but the heat on this one just keeps it down for me. Yes it has a zin profile of fruit, but for my tastes there is not enough balance and depth to support the heat.

Drinking very well now - must have had an off bottle in May. Plenty of structure to go longer if one wanted but there is no reason to wait. Decent balance for a big style of zin - no alcohol or tannins stand out. The Novy Carlisle has come around much faster than the Carlisle Carlisle.

The alcohol and disjointedness that others have noted has disappeared with a little cellar time. It was just delicious with zinberry and spice. Nice round mouthfeel. A big zin, but no longer over the top. Highly recommended. Color was very dark garnet.

Well, this was really enjoyable. Nice brambly red fruit with a rich mouthfeel and some mocha on the peppery finish. The 16% alcohol is defnitely present, but this is a big zin...deal with it! I really liked this full throttle-fruity zin. Perfect match for grilled burgers.

<Brad, Greg> Much lighter in color than the Black Sears -- almost a brilliant garnet. Sweet red fruits, but the nose was really dominated by an interesting honey sweet, femine floral essence. Greg related it to Leis in Hawaii. Sweet red fruit on the palate, a little minty, and then mocha and some alcohol rolling throung on the finish. Certainly less hot and more integrated than the last time I tried this. I give it an 86-87 with deference to the interesting nose.

An additional 5 months in the cellar have been very good to this wine. The completely dominating alcohol on the nose and palate has been pushed into the background by loads of brambly zinberry fruit. The wine still has some rough edges and will never be as balanced as Carlisle versions but it is now drinking decently which I was not sure would ever be the case. The only food I can think of to match with this is a spicey BBQ sandwich. I will hold my last bottle until year's end to see if the positive transformation continues.

Carlisle Vineyard is a very nice source for Zin. Tasty stuff with typical Zin profile of berries, bramble, and spice. Novy makes some very nice wines and this is a prime example. Now-2009

Spicy and peppery Blackberry and rasperries. But the Alcohol was jumping right out the glass. Dominated the mid palate through the finish and made for a very difficult pairing tonight. <Salsicce Pasta - GB, EN and SB>

This was very disjointed upon opening and showed all of it's 16% abv. With some air the wine improved considerably with nice black fruit - raspberry & cherry - and some spiciness but the alcohol was still evident, although toned down considerably, and the wine was still showing some rough edges. The evident alcohol on the mid-palate is problematic as I don't believe time will solve this issue. However, since I have 2 remaining bottles I will be patient in hopes that at least the rough edges smooth out. This was my first experience with Adam's zin and I was a little disappointed.

Pulled this bottle to pair with BBQ ribs. Flawed bottle. Nothing but rubbing alcohol on the nose and palate.

nice nose, but it was the layered flavors that wowed me. High notes over solid fruit. Smooth tannins, medium bodied.. very nice. 3.5++
