Casual champagnes: 2008 base. Found this for a good price at auction, these old Charles Heidsieck NVs are real gems. Lots of gunflint and brioche notes on the nose, rich and full but had the acidity from the vintage and a complexity that only age could bring. Preferred the stunning 2007 base that I had last year which less full-on, but still a great drink.

This bottle certainly mirrors my last note - these are great at the price. Maturing elements are there over the crisp fresh apples. OK length at this level. Very much enjoyable although perhaps not extremely memorable over the long term.
Disgorged 2016.

At lunch with Kathy, Virgie, and Joe, from the back label comes Mis en cave 2009, disgorged 2014, 40% Reserve wines with an average age of 10 years, nose of hazelnuts, baked apple, brioche, touch of oak and honey, same on the palate, big body, lots of fine bubbles formed a gentle mousse, tasty but somehow a touch simple, and a medium/long finish.

Mis en cave 2009, disgorged 2016. Golden yellow, a rich yeasty note with almonds and hazelnuts on the nose. Lovely on the palate with dried citrus and more nuts, complex body with a medium short finish. Magnum shaped bottle like Krug, 40% reserve wines. This is now my favorite entry level champagne, for the price its a no brainer!

Deep gold dull nose and hardly any bubbles. Heavy and dull overt oxidative notes. Bought this a few years ago on a discount deal at a supermarket then stored in a wine fridge. I suspect it's had poor storage before getting to me.

As usual, one of the best SA's. Surprisingly the 09 base seems more tight and tart than the 08. Might be a difference in the reserve wines.

At the price this is a real killer. Pure, crisp and the young tones of apple.

Complex and rich without being heavy. Lively and celebratory.

Weekend with friends; 8/2/2014-8/3/2014 (At Home): Mature colour with only moderate bubbles. Mature toasty flavours balancing some fresh yellow fruit.

This is really good. The bubbles melt in your mouth and the apple and yeast flavors are good, but not overwhelming.
