Mad for Magnums (Ai Fiori - New York NY): From magnum. Huge spice, slightly mature but quite age appropriate for a 1997 Grand Cru. Very lush fruit with an intense start, moderate middle and ok length. Again at least as much spice as fruit on palate. Drink up in next few years. I recall this was better, more intense and more persistent when last tasted 2-3 years ago.

my first ever montrachet. not decanted, opened 1/2 hour prior to drinking. i guess this is the real deal. yellow-gold color, full body, rich and concentrated. now i'm anxious to try one from a "good" vintage. white flower bouquet and just a hint of stone. minerality was noticable in the taste, but didn't dominate. big wine. flowers just keep coming to mind. i was so taken with this wine that i drank too much too fast. i was fascinated by it's profile. wow factor, high.

Impromptu OL: Old Cabs and Other Treats (Yquem, Montrachet, Hugel, Aubert) (231 Ellsworth Restaurant, San Mateo, California): light golden color; gorgeous lemon zest and minerals nose; concentrated and profoundly complex palate, with marzipan, caramelized grapefruit skin and minerals; long finish
