Deep golden orange color, this was overshadowed by vibrant Prum 2019’s and decades-old Donhof auslese, over Szechuan food on night one. But a day later. alone and with time to savor, this shown. Half dry, ripe tangerines, nectarines, grapefruit skin bite. Altogether delicious. Just goes to show that “A lot of really good wines come in second.”

Clear golden in color. Clean nose of apple, honey, and petrol. Off dry, med acidity, med body. Honey, floral, and Apple on palate. Nice finish. Great acidity still in wine, and still lots of fruit. Not for everyone, but I really enjoyed.

Medium-dark gold color. Mature nose of petrol and honey, with a fresh aroma of honeysuckle. The wine starts sweet on the palate but gains complexity as it moves towards the back of the mouth, finishing with a lingering aftertaste of Meyer lemon and some residual acidity. This is a little too off-dry to pair with main dishes, but would make a lovely digestif. Drinking just fine right now; I'd consume any more while there is still acidic support remaining.

This is an old Spatlese, that tastes quite dry. It has a beautiful golden color, obvious oxidation, but remains with great acidity. This is an acquired taste.

Drink up. Second bottle I have opened. Decanted for an hour before serving. Best served chilled - becomes flabby when it warms up. Touch of sweetness but well balanced by the acidity. Very complex and long. A little oxidized but not overly so. Interesting wine but not my style.

Pours deep amber, almost the color of whiskey, reflecting the fact that it was made just as Nirvana was breaking big.
A bit closed at first, but it opens up after a few minutes. When it does, the aroma is an explosion of petrol, smoke, and dried apricot. On the palate, plenty of dried apricot, peaches, overripe pear. Sometimes, the finish is fat and creamy. Other times, it is razor sharp and citric more in the manner of blood orange or grapefruit instead of lime. Other times, it's smoky minerality. It keeps changing in the glass and revealing different angles depending on what you choose to seek out.
A fascinating wine and one that definitely scratches the old Riesling itch.

Deep amber color reflecting its 24 years of age. The nose has the typical petrol/diesel, and is somewhat oxidized. However, the palate does not have any of the oxidized character, more of a dry Riesling with plenty of acidity.

Very interesting. Golden in color. When the bottle was first opened, it seemed a bit flat, with petrol/gas notes dominating. But, wow, after being left open for an hour or so, the wine was a different animal. Great, mouth-watering acidity, a touch of sweetness, and a long finish with strong petrol/gas notes that were balanced by fruit, honey, and some stony minerality. The wine geek in me was pretty giddy over this one.

A hugely successful bottle at a Turkey-fest this year with two CA Pinot producers who both stopped posturing to focus on the impact of this wine when offered. Served at "cellar temp," this offerd golden hues and great fragrance ( after an initial blow-off), followed by a long finish. I don't have the lexicon for comparing good vs great Rieslings, but this was a huge success after 20 years.

White mushrooms, delicate, floral nose; high acidity, and finishes dry with just a hint of sweetness; elegant mid-palate with rocky minerality; loamy clay soils and 10.5% so this is not a sweet spatlese.

Really nice. Not as sweet as the ‘92 Auslese we had next to it, but that’s to be expected from the Spatlese. Well Balanced.

Very much still alive. Maybe a bit further into the oxidation scale than the previous bottle but otherwise the notes match.
Dried apricot, peaches, smoke. Candied orange peel and a bit of bruised apple. Stunningly complex.
Finishes with intense citric acidity.
